Women's volleyball earns 12th SLIAC title in 13 seasons with Homecoming wins
The volleyball team defeated Eureka and Blackburn in two three-set matches on Friday night to clinch at least a tie for their 12th SLIAC championship in the last 13 seasons.The Panthers won their opening match as Mia Bonacorsi averaged five kills per set, accumulating 15 kills in the contest. Sacorra Patton provided 11 kills in GU's 25-19, 25-19, 25-9 win.Kaitlin Murray led GU with 24 set assists for a team that had 49 kills and 13 errors in 103 attacks.Bonacorsi added three service aces and 16 digs.Chasity Hill was also GU's leader with 16 digs.Lainey Hicks led Greenville's production at the net with three block assists.In front of a packed crowd for the night's second match, the Panthers recorded a 25-16, 25-11, 25-9 win.Bonacorsi was the team leader again with 14 kills, and Murray provided 21 set assists.Amber Glazebrook's serving resulted in six service aces.A balanced defense was paced by Bonacorsi with nine digs. Mia deJesus provided two solo blocks, and Dana DeFreezer totaled two block assists.The Panthers (17-6, 11-0 SLIAC) will seek an outright league championship in their next conference win.
