The women's soccer team pushed their season-high winning streak to four matches with a 6-0 win over Principia on Tuesday in the first round of the SLIAC tournament. The shutout was Greenville's third in their last four matches, and they have only allowed four goals in the last month.
The Panthers set the tone in the ninth minute of the match with Jen De Leon De Leon's goal, and Kiera Coleman scored early in the 11th minute for 2-0 lead.
Greenville carried the two-goal advantage to halftime.
In the second half, Ashlie Johnston Cabral added a goal at 48 minutes, and Nina Torvisco followed it nearly 80 seconds later with a goal to put GU on top 4-0.
Before the match ended, Idaly Valenzuela posted a goal in the 66th minute, and Cabral added her second goal of the night on a penalty kick.
De Leon provided an assist on Coleman's goal, and Coleman assisted Torvisco. Torvisco added an assist on Cabral's first goal.
Goalkeeper Addison Miller accumulated three saves for a clean sheet, and GU outshot Principia by a 20-05 margin. Greenville also bettered Principia 8-2 in corner kicks.
The No. 3 seed Panthers (11-6-2) will play at the No. 2 seed Webster on Thursday at 5 p.m. with a win advancing them to the SLIAC championship match on Saturday. No. 1 seed Fontbonne will host No. 4 seed Westminster in the other semifinal match.
