Women's basketball surrenders fourth quarter lead in 68-67 defeat

The women's basketball team played a tightly contested game at Centre on Monday night and dropped a one point decision to the Colonels 68-67.

Greenville dug an 18-9 hole after the first quarter but steadily brought themselves back by outscoring Centre 16-13 in the second quarter and 23-18 in the third stanza. The score stood at 31-25 at halftime and 51-50 after the third period.

Both teams scored 19 points in the final frame. Greenville led by three points with 8:01 to play in the game.

Emily Reinneck and Madelyn Stephen led the Panthers in scoring. Reinneck had 16 points, and Stephen added 13. Reinneck went 3-for-11 from the field with 1-of-4 three-pointers but made all nine of her free throw attempts.

Stephen shot 4-of-13, 1-of-5 behind the arc, and 4-of-5 at the line.

Abigail Reinneck was the third Panther to reach double figures with an 11 point effort.

Greenville fell short on the glass, being outrebounded 37-27. Stephen and Alyssa Seymour each posted five rebounds.

Carolina Hoffman was the team leader with three assists off the bench.

The Panthers forced 21 turnovers, and Stephen and Ally Cantrill each collected three steals.

The Panthers (6-3) travel to Washington-St. Louis on Saturday for a game at 1 p.m.
