In a Jan. 13 Facebook post, Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Harrisburg) shared the news that he was named House Republican Floor Leader.
"I want to thank newly elected House Republican Leader Tony McCombie (R-Sterling) for trusting me with the incredible responsibilities that come with being the House Republican Floor Leader," Windhorst said in a press release. "In this role, I will have the opportunity to help organize debate and ask questions of the sponsors of every single bill that comes before the House of Representatives. While my responsibilities in Springfield will be expanded, I will continue working hard for the people of the 117th district, bringing them updates and information on legislation that impacts their lives, and connecting them to the government services they need and deserve."
The news release included comment from McCombie.
“The House Republican Caucus will benefit greatly from Patrick’s legislative experience, legal expertise, and temperament as he leads debate and directs the questioning of legislative sponsors as our Floor Leader," McCombie said. "Rep. Windhorst will lead the House Republican caucus in our fight against the unconstitutional SAFE-T Act and the recently passed and signed unconstitutional gun control legislation. The people of Illinois will also benefit because Patrick Windhorst will hold House Democrats accountable by demanding transparency and getting to the bottom of legislation pending before the House of Representatives.”
Windhorst was first elected to represent the 187th District in 2018, and after redistricting in 2021, became the representative of the 117th District
Windhorst has served on the following House committees and subcommittees: Criminal Administration and Enforcement Subcommittee, Ethics and Elections, Family Law & Probate Subcommittee, Firearms and Firearm Safety Subcommittee, Higher Education, Human Services and Human Services Appropriations, Judiciary Civil Law, Judiciary Criminal Law, Mental Health, Restorative Justice, and Sentencing, Penalties and Criminal Procedure Subcommittee.
Windhorst resides in Metropolis.
