In a May 16 Facebook post, state Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Harrisburg) expressed his gratitude to those who turned out for the Old King Coal Parade in West Frankfort, Meet the Candidate event in Carmi, and the Meet and Greet at Shotgun Eddy’s.

“We had a great Saturday at the Old King Coal Parade in West Frankfort and the Meet the Candidate event in Carmi,” he posted on Facebook. “We also had a wonderful Meet and Greet at Shotgun Eddy’s between those two events! Thank you for all your support!”

Windhorst announced in October that he would seek re-election to the Illinois General Assembly in the newly created 117th District, according to the Marion Republican.

According to his website, Windhorst was elected to the General Assembly in 2018 and sworn in on Jan. 9, 2019. Previously, he had served as the State’s Attorney for Massac County from 2004 to 2018, according to the website.

“After dethroning a political dynasty in 2018, I went to work in Springfield to fight corruption, enact pro-growth policies, and push back against the Democrats' never-ending attack on our Southern Illinois values," Windhorst said, according to the Marion Republican. "I have amassed a rock-solid conservative voting record of opposing every single tax increase that came through the House, opposing any and all infringements on our Second Amendment rights, and defending the lives of the unborn. I look forward to providing Southern Illinois a conservative voice once again."

State Rep. Dave Severin (R-Benton) also attended the Old King Coal Parade, though the area will no longer be in his district in the new legislative maps.

"I will be losing West Frankfort in the newly drawn legislative maps, but I know the people there will be in good hands when my friend, fellow Rep, and ultra- talented and brilliant Patrick Windhorst is re-elected as the new 117th district State Rep,” Severin said in a Facebook post. “I was honored to join Senator Bryant and friends to show our support for Patrick at the West Frankfort Old King Coal parade on Saturday!"
