State Sen. Terri Bryant (R-Murphysboro) wants to share the love this upcoming Valentine's Day by delivering cards to senior citizens living in nursing homes across her district.
Bryant took to social media to ask her constituents to participate.
"Help me bring some joy to seniors living in assisted living centers, nursing homes, and long-term care facilities throughout the 58th district," Bryant wrote in a Jan. 10 Facebook post.
She shared a graphic outlining the details for the "Valentines for Seniors Card Drive" that she is hosting. The cards will be accepted through Feb. 7.
"You can drop off or mail cards, poems, and other well-wishes to my Murphysboro office at 1032 W. Industrial Park Road, Murphysboro, IL 62966," she wrote in the Facebook post.
Bryant has been in the news recently after a bill she sponsored to create standards for midwives to earn their certificates in Illinois became law, according to the Metro East Sun.
"The signing of this legislation into law is a momentous victory for the midwives of our state," Bryant wrote in a December Facebook post. "For decades, they have been fighting to have their profession receive the official recognition that it rightfully deserves. This newly created certification process will ensure that they can safely continue their work for any mother who wish to use their services and deliver out of a hospital."
Last month, she also worked to help teach young people about politics, state government, and leadership.
The Metro East Sun reported it was part of the Youth Advisory Council at Southern Illinois University–Carbondale hosted for the first time by Bryant. A second Youth Advisory Council is expected to take place at the State Capitol during the spring.
Bryant said it was "exciting" to see the students take part in such an important, educational event.
