U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-Carbondale) argues the numbers speak for themselves when it comes to the growing instability now being seen at the U.S. border.
“August was the second month in a row where we saw over 200,000 illegal border crossings,” Bost, a retired Marine, recently posted on Twitter. “This is a national security and humanitarian crisis."
Fox News recently aired footage of the scene at the International Bridge in Del Rio, Texas, that shows thousands of migrants being boxed in as they wait to be apprehended after crossing into the U.S illegally.
Estimates are that upwards of 4,200 migrants are now a part of the crowd, with the group showing few signs of slowing.
As the numbers continue to swell, so does the level of scrutiny and criticism being faced by the Biden administration, with Republicans blaming the crisis on the president for rolling back Trump-era policies like the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP).
As the situation has intensified, House Republicans have now submitted a resolution of inquiry to Biden administration officials seeking answers about their handling of the situation. The move comes as GOP lawmakers say that the Department of Homeland Security has not been responsive to repeated requests for information.
