State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) objected to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s budget address and has said that the budget presented was out-of-balance and the governor is running a circus.
He called on the governor to step up to be a better leader and tackle the state's crises with better accountability and responsibility.
“This is not a balanced budget,” Niemerg said. “The governor calls those carnival barkers, well he’s running the carnival and Illinois deserves better.
Niemerg also criticized the corporate loopholes worth more than $900 million that Pritzker presented which includes capping the retailer’s discount at $1,000/month ($73 million) and removal of production-related tangible personal property from the MME sales tax exemption of $56 million.
“The additional revenue is achieved through cutting tax credits or so-called tax loopholes as the governor put it,” the state representative continued.
He further reacted that the budget was “nothing more than a tax increase” on the state businesses “which will only contribute to the mass exodus from Illinois.”
Niemerg reiterated that Pritzker’s plan will further stop Illinoisans to recover from the devastation brought by COVID-19.
“In short, this budget does nothing to alleviate the strain on middle-class taxpayers, mom and pop retailers, and the general public of Illinois.”
