City of Metropolis City Council met Dec. 9.

Here is the agenda provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 9th, 2024, in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Council members were present: Alderwoman Michele Longworth, Alderman Jeremy Holley, Dylan Chambers, Brian Anderson, Darryl Neill, Al Wagner, Chuck Short, Corporate Counsel Andrew Leonard, Mayor Don Canada, City Clerk Jan Adams and concerned citizens of Metropolis. Alderman Chad Lewis was absent.

Moved by Alderman Chuck Short and second by Alderman Jeremy Holley to approve payment to Biovac in the amount of $25,514.00 for empty and filling last filter

Jeremy Billington representing Cresent Insurance reviewed how our plan preformed over the past year and evaluated whether the current deductible is still appropriate. His recommendation was to continue with the $75,000 stop loss coverage.

*City Hall & Public Works Departments will be closed on Tuesday, December 24th and Wednesday, December 25th to observe Christmas, Tuesday, December 31st, and Wednesday, January to observe New Years’s

The new employee will work in two part-time positions. They will work for corporate counsel and be responsible for health insurance/workman’s compensation.

CORPORATE COUNSEL:

Moved by Alderwoman Michele Longworth and second by Alderman Al Wagner to seek bids for the sale of improved property located at 1017 Simmons St, Metropolis, IL

Several bids were received for 401, 407, and 415 West 8th Street lots.

Kyrah Berry bid $500 on 401 West 8th Street.

Jones Building LLC, Josh Reagor, bid $3,001 for the 3 lots as a group attaching a letter with his plans for the property. He has plans to start on the first 2 homes in the Spring of 2025 if awarded the bid.

Dustin Babb bid $7,000 on each property totaling $21,000.

Due to the uncertainty of Mr. Babb’s bids the motion was tabled.

DEPARTMENT HEADS:

OLD BUSINESS:

Alderman Jeremy Holley asked if there was a consent for the Placemaking Grant available through the National Association of Realtors. Mayor Canada said public works director had sent Tiffany Korte information on a Mommy & Me swing. The consensus is to have the swing at Washington Park. Holley said that in further talks with Korte, it was verified that applications are due in early January before the council’s next meeting. Canada said he would touch base with Korte about the application on Tuesday, Dec. 10th.

Alderman Al Wagner praised Morgan Siebert’s creativity enhancing the Superman sign at Fort Massac State Park.

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Moved by Alderman Jeremy Holley and second by Alderman Dlyan Chambers to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of current Salaries, Payroll and Contract bills.
