The City Council of the City of Vienna met in regular session, Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Vienna City Hall with the following members and guests:

There being a quorum, Mayor Penrod called the meeting of the Vienna City Council to order at 6:30 p.m.
NEW BUSINESS
Alderman Tuey made a motion to Authorize and Approve the Omnibus Consent Agenda consisting of the April 17, 2024 meeting minutes and the Warrant ($17,574.75). Alderman Pitts seconded the motion. All in favor, motion carried.
Mayor Penrod, with consent of council, appointed Justin Hartline to the position of City Superintendent of Public Works. Hartline was sworn in by Mayor Penrod.
Mayor Penrod named appointments to the city Zoning Board with consent of council. Carl Brasher for term: March 2024-2029
Beverly Rockwell for term: June 2024-2029
PUBLIC COMMENT
Walter Poole was present to announce the Brayden King Memorial Baseball Tournament scheduled for June 8-9th at the city ballpark. Poole said thirteen teams were currently signed up to play.
ELECTED/APPOINTED OFFICIALS
Fire Chief Wiliams said the department had responded to fifty calls from January 1st through April. Council and Williams briefly discussed the volume of lift assist calls. Williams said he would prepare a summary of calls for review at the next meeting.
Alderman Racey proposed the city donate $300.00 to Johnson County Revitalization's fundraiser to save the county courthouse. Council was in general consent to do so.
Mayor Penrod said the asbestos inspections performed for the demolition grant were completed. The city should receive reports around May 6th.
Penrod briefed the council on a water leak inside of the Southern Seven head start building earlier in the week. Penrod said the city ordinance needed to be reviewed and revised to include a better understanding of city/owner responsibility for repairs of meters located inside buildings.
Penrod gave an update on the USDA Rural Development grant status that includes the water plant and water tower projects.
As there was no further business to discuss, Alderman Tuey made a motion to adjourn. Seconded by Alderman Pitts. Mayor Penrod declared the meeting adjourned at 6:54 p.m.
