Vienna Public School District 55 Board of Education met Nov. 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Vienna Public School District #55 Board of Education was called to order by Mrs. Sherie Smith, President, at 6:00 p.m. with the following members present.

Consent Agenda

Motion by Borders seconded by Betts to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Closed Session

Motion by Betts seconded by Borders to go in to closed session at 6:25 p.m. to discuss (1) the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of employees of the district or legal counsel for the district including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the district or against legal counsel of the district, to determine its validity. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Betts seconded by Borders to come out of closed session and return to regular open session at 7:01 p.m. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Beta Club Attendance to Conventions

Motion by Betts seconded by Trovillion to authorize the junior high Beta Club's attendance at the 2024 state and national conventions, respectively. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

City of Vienna Police Department MOU

Motion by Borders seconded by Colson to approve the Vienna Public School District #55 and City of Vienna Police Department general law enforcement memorandum of understanding, as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Approve Risk Management Plan

Motion by Colson seconded by Moore to approve the FY25 risk management plan, as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Employ Coaches

Motion by Betts seconded by Trovillion to employ Dewayne Hensley as the head 5/6 grade boys basketball coach for the 2023-24 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Betts seconded by Colson to employ Adam Hook as the volunteer 5/6 grade boys basketball coach for the 2023-24 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Borders seconded by Colson to employ Miranda Merchant as the head 5/6 grade girls basketball coach for the 2023-24 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Borders seconded by Trovillion to employ Ashley Fox as the volunteer 5/6 grade girls basketball coach for the 2023-24 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Yadloski seconded by Borders to employ Harley Palmer as the head volleyball coach for the 2023-24 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Borders seconded by Colson to employ Hailee McIlwain as the assistant volleyball coach for the 2023-24 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Accept Resignation

Mrs. Smith read a letter of resignation from Desiree Ellet, jr. high science teacher.

Motion by Betts seconded by Yadloski to accept the resignation of Desiree Ellet, jr. high science teacher, effective December 15, 2023. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Yadloski, Moore, Smith, Betts, Colson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Other

November 15 is Illinois' School Board Members' Day. Vienna Grade School commends its board members for their dedication and service to its students, staff, and district.

The triple I conference is this November. Four members are registered to attend. Mrs. Smith will be recognized as an established board leader.
