Student Council: For teacher appreciation week we brought breakfast and dessert items for Thursday. We also gifted everyone with a Flair pen with an uplifting message and made a sign for the Teacher’s lounge. On April 27th we held our final Blood Drive. We collected 62 units of blood and had 14 deferred donors. We were able to present Natalee Brown with a $2500 scholarship from the American Red Cross. We are meeting next week with all of the officers to start planning for Homecoming.

Items from Teachers: Thank you for the pizza during Teacher Appreciation Week - it was a great way to end a fun week! We really appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness. Mrs. Falkenburry and Mrs. Denny took 38 seniors to Math and Physics day at Six Flags. Only seniors in a fourth year math class were invited to attend. While there, they got to see physics and math come to life as they rode rides and measured various things. Each student was required to complete a worksheet based on the various rides size, height, length, number of riders, etc. Although there was an 80% chance of rain that day, it ended up being a beautiful overcast day without a drop of rain. Mrs. Falkenburry and Mrs. Denny would like to thank the board and administration for allowing them the opportunity to take these students on a memorable trip. Please check out the schools facebook page to see the picture of all the students that attended. The BioMed class took their end of year exam. This is part of the national Project Lead the Way program that allows students to earn college credit for the course with a certain score on the test. Twenty four of the twenty five students in the class earned the score to receive college credit. Ms. Lewis and Mrs. Detering took 13 of her seniors to Mounds City National Cemetery and Fort Massac. The kids watched a video before the field trip detailing the history of the cemetery. They noticed that some of the headstones had coins placed on top of them and we learned what that meant. Three of the students joined Ms. Lewis at the Kiwanis meeting last week to thank them for paying for lunch that day. The Anna-Jonesboro FFA Chapter attended the Section 24 Banquet on May 3rd. We received our plaques for Section contests this year and Abigail Dahmer was elected to serve at Section 24 Reporter for the 2022-23 school year. We are holding our Annual Chapter Banquet on May 16th where we will recognize our members’ accomplishments from this year. The Art Club traveled to St. Louis for their annual field trip. Students first toured the Art Museum and then spent a rainy day at the zoo. Everyone had a fantastic time. We are happy to be able to provide this opportunity as some students had never been to a museum or a zoo. The Class of 2022 held their Baccalaureate yesterday. There were over 200 people in attendance, with 10 graduates participating in the service. The class also had Danny McFarland deliver the message for the service. Mrs. Treece received a $2000 grant for the Breathe for Change SEL Yoga course, making the course $997. This will allow her to purchase the course with funds raised through the laundry detergent fundraisers her PE classes hold twice a year. The course learning outcome is to lead wellness workshops for adults and young people in schools, districts, & organizations and learn asana, the physical practice of yoga and how it relates to the body. Mrs. Treece will be completing the course over the summer. Volunteers to participate in yoga practice instruction class are needed. If anyone would be interested please contact Mrs. Treece. The Student Services Department hosted the 2022 Academic Awards Night Wednesday, 5/11. A number of seniors were recognized for scholarships, and general attendance seemed to be up this year (although a number of students did not attend due to athletics and personal reasons). We have received positive feedback regarding the switch to the Latin system with the current freshman class. Otherwise, the department is working on summer school referrals for students who are failing required courses or credit deficient, and notifying parents of students at all levels who are in danger of not graduating on time. In addition, the department is excited to begin planning for the 22-23 school year and the addition of the mental health counselor. They are working closely with admin and stakeholders to determine a comprehensive service plan for students. Finally, the school counselors are in the final stages of scheduling for the 22-23 school year and anticipate providing students with their schedules before the end of the semester.

Curriculum Director Scott Finders reported on Summer Credit Recovery and new courses for 2022-2023.
