Alden-Hebron School District #19 Board of Education met May 4.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

President Norton called the meeting of the Board of Education of Alden-Hebron Community Consolidated Unit School District #19 to order at 7:01 p.m.

Roll Call

PRESENT: Mr. Norton, Mrs. Smith, Mr. Madsen, Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Berg, Mr. Winkelman ABSENT: Mr. Eskridge

ALSO PRESENT:

Tiffany Elswick: Superintendent, Aaron Butler-SY23 Principal, Heather Butler, Ray Stalker REMOTE: Colleen Geils-ES Teacher

COMMUNICATIONS

Public: None

Staff: None

Board: Mrs. Johnson shared that this is Teacher Appreciation Week. She commended the Alden-Hebron staff for the great work that they do and also congratulated the AH PTO for all they are doing to celebrate the staff for Teacher Appreciation Week.

Mr. Norton mentioned that Mr. Slocum, ES Principal, washed all of the ES staff vehicles today as a special surprise.

Consent Agenda

*A. Approval of April 20, 2022 Regular & Executive Meeting Minutes

*B. Personnel Report

Mr. Madsen moved; Mr. Winkelman seconded to approve the Consent Agenda as presented.

Ayes: Mr. Norton, Mr. Winkelman, Mrs. Smith, Mr. Madsen, Mr. Berg, Mrs. Johnson Nays: None

Absent: Mr. Eskridge

Motion Carried

Prior to the Facilities Planning portion of the meeting, Mrs. Elswick took a moment to introduce Mr. Aaron Butler and his wife, Heather. Mr. Butler will be the new MS/HS Principal, effective 07/01/2022. Mr. Butler stated that he is happy to join the Alden-Hebron team and is looking forward to getting to know the BOE, the staff and the families of the District.

FACILITIES PLANNING

Pre-Referendum Planning

Items discussed:

• MS/HS Boiler project

o Estimated cost is higher than expected

o Will need to use all of ESSER II and part of ESSER III funds to complete the project o Sought direction from the BOE to proceed with the project—direction given

• Postcard mailer announcing the Pre-Referendum Community Survey is ready to go out by EDDM and should be in mailboxes by May 9th.

o Survey was created by the Core Team

o Survey will go “live” for public completion on May 6th and will be available until May 23rd

o QR code created for online submissions, paper copies available as well

o Survey Outreach schedule of dates and locations shared by Mrs. Johnson

o BOE took Survey

o Mrs. Elswick will send email to all District 19 staff with a link to the Survey

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS

Mr. Norton reminded the BOE to complete Mrs. Elswick’s Superintendent Evaluation for the next meeting.

COMMUNICATIONS

Public: None

Staff: On behalf of the ES Teachers and Staff, Mrs. Geils thanked Mr. Slocum and the PTO for making them all feel so very appreciated.

Board: None

Mr. Norton moved; Mr. Winkelman seconded to go into Executive Session for the purpose of appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees; or performance of an occupant of public office.

Ayes: Mr. Norton, Mr. Winkelman, Mrs. Smith, Mr. Madsen, Mr. Berg, Mrs. Johnson

Nays: None

Absent: Mr. Eskridge

Motion Carried

Adjournment

Mr. Norton moved; Mr. Winkelman seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:29pm.
