Analysis: Joppa-Maple Grove administrators rank 553rd in state for average pay

Administrators in Joppa-Maple Grove Community Unit School District 38 earn an average of $94,875 per year, ranking 553rd out of 864 districts in Illinois, according to a Southern Illinois News analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The 2020 average is 26.5 percent higher than in 2016 and 10.7 percent higher than in 2011. District administrators make 14.8 percent less than the state average of $111,293.

Administrator salaries depend on the district's size, location and resources, as well as the individual's level of experience and education, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

The Joppa-Maple Grove School District in Massac County enrolled 243 students in 2019-2020. There is an average of 122 students for every administrator, compared to a statewide ratio of 171 to 1.
