Opening

The regular meeting of the Vienna Public School District #55 Board of Education was called to order by Mrs. Sherie Smith, President, at 6:00 p.m. with the following members present.

Mrs. Smith appointed Teale Betts secretary pro tern.

Consent Agenda

Motion by Betts seconded by Hook to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Smith, Betts, Hook. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Closed Session

Motion by Betts seconded by Borders to go in to closed session at 6:43 p.m. to discuss

(1) the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of employees of the District or legal counsel for the District including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the District or against legal counsel of the District, to determine its validity. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Smith, Betts, Hook. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Borders seconded by Betts to come out of closed session and return to regular open session at 7: 15 p.m. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Appoint Board Representatives to PERA Committees

Motion by Hook seconded by Borders to appoint Mr. Frehner as the first board representative to the Senate Bill 7 (PERA) committee for the 2020-21 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Betts seconded by Borders to appoint Mr. Hanks as the second board representative to the Senate Bill 7 (PERA) committee for the 2020-21 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Borders seconded by Hook to approve the 2020-21 Vienna Public School district #55 PERA joint committee agreement, as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Approve Grouping Definitions

Motion by Borders seconded by Hook to approve the Vienna Public School District #55 SB7 grouping definitions agreement for the 2020-21 school year, as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

PRESS Plus

Motion by Betts seconded by Borders to approve the Vienna Public School #55 PRESS Plus customized board of education policies, as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Audit

Mr. Frehner discussed the FY20 audit.

Motion by Hook seconded by Betts to approve the FY20 audit as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

District Improvement Plan

Mr. Frehner reviewed the 2020-21 District Improvement Plan based on 3 initiatives currently being worked on.

Motion by Borders seconded by Hook to approve the Vienna Public School #55 continuous plan of district improvement for the 2020-21 school year, as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Employment

Motion by Hook seconded by Borders to employ Danielle Jones as head volleyball coach for the 2020-21 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Hook seconded by Borders to employ Faith Guest as the volunteer assistant volleyball coach for the 2020-21 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Other

Parent/teacher conferences will be October 20 and 22.

The tax levy will be presented at the November 9 board meeting for the 30 day review.

The Board would like to begin planning the annual Christmas party.
