Mike Bost, U.S. representative for Illinois’ 12th Congressional District, said that the United States should return to the original intent of Title IX. He mentioned his vote in favor of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act.

"President Trump has declared June “Title IX Month," said Bost, according to Facebook. "The announcement marks the 53rd anniversary of Title IX becoming law, protecting equal opportunity for women in education and sports. We must get back to the original intent of Title IX and protect these opportunities from falling victim to the woke mob and virtue signaling. I proudly voted for the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act to ensure biological males aren't competing in sports designed for women and girls."

The U.S. Department of Education has announced the recognition of "Title IX Month" in a news release dated June 2. June is designated to celebrate women and their achievement of equal educational opportunities. The department will investigate the University of Wyoming and Jefferson County Public Schools in Colorado for allegedly allowing males into female-only spaces. "The Department is recognizing June as ‘Title IX Month’ to honor women’s hard-earned civil rights and demonstrate the Trump Administration’s unwavering commitment to restoring them to the fullest extent of the law," said Linda McMahon, U.S. Secretary of Education. She added that this administration would fight on every front to protect women’s and girls’ sports, intimate spaces, dormitories and living quarters, and fraternal and panhellenic organizations.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, Title IX is a 1972 law that prohibits discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities receiving federal funding. The act states: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."

The Center Square reported that the investigation into the University of Wyoming arises from allegations that a man was allowed to join the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Meanwhile, Jefferson County Public Schools is under scrutiny for a policy regarding overnight sleeping arrangements based on gender identity without separating boys and girls.

Bost has represented Illinois’ 12th District since January 6, 2015. A lifelong resident of Murphysboro, he has extensive experience in state politics, having served as House Republican Caucus Chair in the Illinois State House of Representatives for two decades. Bost is also a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps (1979-1982). Before entering full-time politics, he worked for 24 years at Bost Trucking Service and later joined the Murphysboro Fire Department after completing training at the University of Illinois’ Certified Firefighter II Academy in 1993.
