Vienna Public School District 55 Board of Education met April 13.

The Regular Meeting of the Vienna Public School District No. 55 Board of Education was called to order by Mrs. Sherie Smith, President at 6:00 p.m., with the following members present:

S. Smith, President S. Borders, Vice President K. Johnson, Secretary P. Trovillion via Zoom S. Borders T. Betts via Zoom

Members absent:

D. Clayton.

Others present: G. Frehner, A. Hanks, J. Hook, L. Clark via zoom, S. Robinson

Consent Agenda

Motion by Borders seconded by Hook to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts, Johnson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Comments from Employees and Public

Business of the Administration

(A) Treasurer's Report (1) fund balances and FRIS report (B) Administrative Reports (1) JAMP Governing Board Meeting Report (2) school improvement/internal review update including remote learning explained by Mr. Hanks (3) tentative athletic budget for 2020-2021

Closed Session

Motion by Hook seconded by Borders to go in to closed session at 6:44 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of employees of the District or legal counsel for the District including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the District or against legal counsel of the District, to determine its validity. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts, Johnson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Johnson seconded by Borders to come out of closed session and return to regular open session at 7:25 p.m. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts, Johnson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Student Teacher Agreement

Motion by Hook seconded by Borders to approve an agreement with SIU-C to accept student teachers and teacher candidates in clinical field placements for the 2020-2021 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts, Johnson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Approve Consolidated District Plan

Motion by Borders seconded by Hook to

approve the Vienna Public School District #55 consolidated district plan for the 2020-21 school year as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts, Johnson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Retirement

Mrs. Smith read a letter from Anna Eldridge of intent to retire at the end of the 2023-24 school year.

Motion by Johnson seconded by Borders to approve Anna Eldridge's letter of intent to retire effective at the end of the 2023-24 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts, Johnson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Employment

Motion to hire first grade teacher is tabled. Accept Resignation Mrs. Smith read a letter of intent to retire from Janet Williams.

Motion by Johnson seconded by Hook to accept the resignation of Janet Williams, cook, effective May 21, 2020. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts, Johnson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Health Life/Safety Motion by Hook seconded by Borders to Amendments approve 2 health life/safety safety grant amendments to the Vienna Public School ten-year H/LS plan as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts, Johnson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Surplus Property

Motion by Borders seconded by Hook to approve surplus property items as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts, Johnson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Other

Motion by Borders seconded by Hook to employ Laura Payne as a junior high special education teacher for the 2020-21 school year. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts, Johnson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Hook seconded by Betts to set the May 11 board meeting for 6:00 p.m. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts, Johnson. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Graduation is set for May 14 at 7:00.

Motion by Johnson seconded by Hook to adjourn at 8:10 p.m. All voted yea.
