Vienna Public School District 55 Board of Education met Dec. 9.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The Regular Meeting of the Vienna Public School District No. 55 Board of Education was called to order by Mrs. Sherie Smith, President, at 7:00 p.m., with the following members present:

S. Smith, President 

S. Borders, Vice President 

P. Trovillion

L. Hook 

T. Betts

Members absent: Clayton, Johnson.

Others present: G. Frehner, L. Wetherell, T. Trovillion, S. Robinson.

Mrs. Smith appointed Teale Betts secretary pro tem.

Consent Agenda Motion by Hook seconded by Betts to approve the consent agenda as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Comments from the Employees/Public

Ms. Wetherell commented on the Board sponsored Christmas dinner. The dinner was very fun, and the staff thank the Board. The Johnson County Olympiad was held a few weeks ago.

Business of the Administration

(A) Treasurer's Report (1) fund balances (2) FY20 FRIS update (3) trend data on balances in Education Fund and all funds (B) Administrative Reports (1) quarterly building and transportation report (2) VGS Target School Violence Prevention Program Plan (3) VGS School Wellness Plan (4) District improvement plan update presented by Mr. Hanks

Adopt Tax Levy

Motion by Borders seconded by Trovillion to adopt the 2019 tax levy as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Closed Session

Motion by Betts seconded by Trovillion to go in to closed session at 8:05 p.m. to discuss (1) the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of employees of the District or legal counsel for the District including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the District or against legal counsel of the District, to determine its validity. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Betts seconded by Borders to come out of closed session and return to regular open session at 8:40 p.m. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Let the records show the following items were discussed: (1) the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of employees of the District or legal counsel for the District including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the District or against legal counsel of the District, to determine its validity.

Future Green Contract

Motion by Hook seconded by Borders to approve the proposed 2-year contract with Future Green Energy Consortium as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Personnel

Motion by Borders seconded by Hook to employ Beth Palmer and Michele Steinmann as 5/6 grade girls basketball coaches for the 2019-20 season. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Borders seconded by Betts to employ Ned Trovillion, head coach, Frank Patalano, assistant coach, and John Johnson as volunteer assistant for the 5/6 grade boys basketball 2019-20 season. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Mrs. Smith read a letter of resignation from Brynn Basinger, speech-language pathologist. Motion by Trovillion seconded by Hook to accept the resignation of Brynn Basinger, SLP effective December 20, 2019. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Borders seconded by Betts to employ Allison Stram as SLP for the 2019 20 school year effective January 6, 2020. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Approve Contract

Motion by Hook seconded by Trovillion to approve the snow removal service bid of Jeff Simmons for snow removal services during the 2019-20 school year, as presented. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Closed Session Minutes and Tapes

Motion by Borders seconded by Trovillion to keep the closed session minutes closed for the six-month period January-June 2018 reviewed. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Motion by Betts seconded by Borders to direct the Board designee to dispose of closed session verbatim recordings for the January to June 2018 period. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Meeting Time Change Motion by Borders seconded by Betts to change the January 13, 2020 board meeting start time to 6:00 p.m. Roll call. Voting yes: Borders, Trovillion, Hook, Smith, Betts. Voting no: none. Motion carried.

Other

The Christmas program will be Thursday, December 19 at 6:30.

December 11 VGS will have a silent night basketball game with everyone dressing in Christmas attire.

The Board and Administration thank the VGS Teachers' Association for the beautiful Christmas gifts.
