Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 3.

From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, November 18-30, 2019;

November 19, 2019

Metropolis Officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress, at a residence in the 400 block of Catherine. Upon arrival, Officers located the offender who was still in possession of proceeds from the burglary. The victim confirmed that the offender, Eric D Mitchell,36, Metropolis did not have permission to enter the home or take anything from it. Mitchell was charged with Burglary and Theft. Mitchell was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

November 20, 2019

A Metropolis Officer stopped a red KIA on US 45 near Bullock Ln. the KIA had an expired registration from August 2019. A computer check revealed that the driver, Moesha Javette Addison,21, Metropolis had a suspended drivers license. She could not provide proof of insurance on the KIA. Addison was arrested and taken to the Metropolis Police Dept. for processing. Addison was charged with Driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and expired registration. Addison was able to post bond and was released.

A Metropolis Sergeant attempted to make a traffic stop on a black dodge Charger. The Sgt observed that the charger made an illegal turn as it was in the right-hand lane of W. 10th Street and turned left onto 9th St. After activated the emergency lights, the driver did not stop. The air horn and siren were also activated, and the driver continued on. The vehicle continued to travel for a few blocks until finally stopping in a driveway of a private residence. A computer check on the driver, Xavier M. Smith,35, Metropolis revealed that he had a revoked drivers license. An open bottle of Vodka was found in the cup holder of the center console of the vehicle. Smith was charged with Driving while license revoked, attempting to flee or elude police, improper turn and illegal transportation of open alcohol. Smith was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Billy J. Purvis,44, Golconda, IL was arrested in front of the Humma Apts on E. 3rd St. Purvis was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Pope County, IL for failure to appear. Purvis was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis Offices were called to a suspicious person by the Cordavino’s Restaurant on Ferry St. Officers located a person matching that description in the alley. The subject Dustin Cain Sommer,27, Metropolis showed obvious signs of drug addiction. He was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Sommer was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

November 21, 2019

Amiee Lynn Davis,29, Metropolis was arrested in the 800 block of E. 6th St. Davis was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for driving while license revoked. Davis was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

A Metropolis Officer stopped a maroon Chrysler on 12th St for no valid registration. The driver gave fictitious information as to his name and date of birth. The officer was finally able to locate his true identity. William M Barnett,65, Metropolis was charged with obstructing ID. He was also charged with driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and no valid registration. Barnett was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

November 25, 2019

A Metropolis Sergeant received a call about possible drug activity in progress near Yasoda and 6th Street, in a parking lot of the Spence Apartments. With the assistance of two Massac County Deputies, 2 Metropolis Officers went to the area. Officers located Serenity R. Johnston, 19, Metropolis next to her vehicle. In plain view on the closed center console, officers located a clear plastic baggie containing approximately 16.3 grams of Cannabis. Officers also located a smoking pipe with burnt residue. Johnston was arrested and charged with possession of more than 10 but less than 30 grams of Cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. A search of Casey L. Newberry,44, Metropolis found him be in possession of a loaded syringe with Meth as well as crystal Meth in his other pocket. Newberry was charged with possession of Meth and drug paraphernalia. Newberry was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. Deandre Lannell Barnes, 24, Metropolis was found to be in possession of approximately 20 grams of Cannabis as well a grinder and digital scale. Barnes was charged with possession of more than 10 but less than 30 grams of Cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. Barnes was also lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

November 27, 2019

A Metropolis Officer stopped a Ford Fiesta for speeding 51 mph in a posted 35 mph zone in the 1200 block of W. 10th St. The driver, Christopher L. Murphy,39, Mt. Washington, KY was extremely nervous. The canine officer was in the area and conducted a free air sniff which alerted for the presence of drugs in the vehicle. A search revealed a loaded syringe with Meth, numerous Diazepam and Alprazolam which are scheduled narcotics as well a over $1400 in counterfeit bills. Officers also located three different sets of ID as well as credit cards, EBT cards and other identification. Those persons were contacted and advised that the ID’s were stolen. Murphy was charged with speeding, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, possession of Meth, possession of controlled substances (x2), Forgery, credit card fraud, possession of burglary tools, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The US Secret Service was also contacted and additional charges at the Federal Level are being investigated. Murphy was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

November 28, 2019

Metropolis Officers were called to a residence in the 500 block of E. 11th St. The caller stated that a suspicious subject had come to his residence twice asking for a person who does not live there. Offices obtained a description of the subject and began checking the area. A Metropolis Sergeant located a subject walking down the center of the road on East 13th St, impeding the flow of traffic. The Sergeant recognized the subject as Donnie D Kindle,38, Karnak, IL. The sergeant was aware that Kindle was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Johnson County, IL for Burglary and Criminal Damage to Property. The Sergeant asked Kindle to stop by he ignored the numerous commands. As Kindle was about to enter the alley, the Sergeant advised that if he did not stop, he would be tazed. Kindle then complied. Kindle was taken into custody and a search revealed him to be in possession of a hypodermic syringe and well as Meth. Kindle was then charged with walking in the roadway, Possession of Meth and possession of drug paraphernalia, in addition to the warrants. Kindle was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
