Board Workshop Meeting Minutes
ROLL CALL/ATTENDANCE
Chair Bill Hawley convened a meeting of the Board of Trustees (Board) on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 3:04 p.m. in the Administrative Conference Room (AD201) on the Kaskaskia College (College) main campus.
Trustees present at the meeting in person were Craig Finke, Bill Hawley, Bryan Holthaus, Louis Kalert, Linda Stover, and Laura Wedekemper. Trustee Jim Beasley and Student Trustee Meagan Mahlandt were not present.
College staff members attending in person were George Evans, Karol Potter, Scott Steward, and Amy Zanton. College faculty attending in person were Tena Elliott, Connor Pollmann, and Josie Spihlman.
No media were present.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Chairman Hawley led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

President Evans welcomed those in attendance and recognized the faculty members present.

REVIEW OF CURRENT ATHLETIC PROGRAM DIVISION ASSIGNMENTS Vice President of Student Services, Amy Zanton, presented information on the current division status for each sport at Kaskaskia College including an analysis of the differences between Division 1 and Division II. Information was provided on the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and the Mid-West Athletic Conference as well as the sports participating in each of those conferences. No changes in division status are anticipated.
REVIEW OF CURRENT ATHLETIC RECRUITMENT DATA
Vice President of Student Services, Amy Zanton, shared historical data on in-district and out-of-district student athletes. Mrs. Zanton provided a comparison of these groups against similar data from community colleges in the region. Additionally, Mrs. Zanton presented statistical information regarding the number of athletes who transferred to four-year institutions after their time at Kaskaskia College.
DISCUSSION OF ATHLETIC PROGRAMS, EXPECTATIONS, CURRENT AND FUTURE PLANS Vice President of Student Services, Amy Zanton and Athletic Director Scott Steward shared information on current and future goals for the Athletic Department.
• The Athletics Department will be issuing three different surveys to gather insights and feedback from local high school athletic directors and coaches, as well as former prospective athletes who chose not to attend Kaskaskia College.
• A campaign will be initiated to strengthen relationships between the Kaskaskia College Athletic Director and coaches and the high school athletic directors and coaches within the district.
• Marketing efforts will be enhanced to develop an overall regional, comprehensive marketing plan for athletics.
• Feasibility studies are underway for some potential new sports that would better support in-district participation.
CLOSING COMMENTS
President Evans provided a summary of the materials reviewed and the associated discussions. The Board of Trustees members conveyed their interest in reviewing comparisons of athletes from in-district, out-of-district, and regional perspectives. They also emphasized the importance of enhancing efforts to recruit more athletes from the region.

Motion by Louis Kalert to adjourn. All members voted yes by voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 4:24 p.m.
