Pope County taxpayers ranked 93rd in total sales taxes paid per county in April, according to Illinois tax records.

In total, residents paid $74,838 in sales taxes during April.

The county ranked 97th in the Prairie State the month before, with $46,754 spent in sales taxes.

The largest share of sales taxes paid by Pope County residents in April came from the County Sales Tax.

The County Sales Tax is a local sales tax imposed on retail sales of goods and services within a specific county. It is one of the primary sources of revenue for county governments, funding a wide range of essential services, including education, infrastructure, public safety, public health, and social services. The average rate imposed in Illinois is around 8.2%.
