Blaine Wilhour, a House Representative from Illinois, has criticized Governor JB Pritzker's actions concerning shutdowns, gun rights, and dissent, suggesting they undermine the governor's credibility to speak about rights. Wilhour made this statement on the social media platform X.

"Gov. Pritzker you lecturing anyone on rights is wild. Are you kidding me," said Blaine Jacob Wilhour, State Representative from Illinois. "You shut down businesses, schools, and churches. You've thrown the 2nd amendment in the trash. You've consistently crushed dissent. You don't get to pretend now."

Recent debates in Illinois have centered around Governor Pritzker’s use of executive authority during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the Chicago Tribune, emergency orders related to mask mandates, business closures, and restrictions on gatherings have sparked legal challenges and criticism from lawmakers and civil liberties groups. These critics argue that such actions tested constitutional limits and fueled ongoing controversy over executive power in the state.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports that more than 85,000 businesses, schools, and churches were temporarily closed or restricted under Governor Pritzker’s executive orders during the pandemic. These measures had broad economic and social effects on communities across Illinois.

A report from the Illinois State Rifle Association indicates that Illinois has enacted some of the strictest gun laws in recent years. These include bans on assault weapons, limits on magazine capacity, and expanded background checks, positioning Illinois ahead of most Midwestern states regarding Second Amendment-related legislative action.

Wilhour is a Republican state representative known for advocating civil liberties and opposing expansive executive authority. His official biography describes his efforts to introduce bills aimed at limiting emergency powers and his vocal criticism of Governor Pritzker’s pandemic policies.
