Community Unit School District #201 Board of Education met June 17.

CALL TO ORDER

On June 17, 2025 at 6:36 p.m. President Conover called to order the regular meeting of the Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education.

Roll Call

Members Present: Leah Conover, Carlos Hevia, Jessica Radogno, Adina Hoover, Kevin Marren, Lauren Zekiri

Members Absent: None.

Also present: Superintendent Jack Baldermann, and the Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant, Shannon Cossairt.

Pledge of Allegiance

President Conover led the Assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.

PROCEDURAL

Oath of Office

Not at this time.

CLOSED SESSION

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Mr. Hevia, to enter closed session to discuss personnel issues, student discipline, superintendent evaluation, and collective bargaining.

Ayes: Hoover, Zekiri, Radogno, Hevia, Marren Conover Nays: None

Motion Carried.

The Board entered closed session at 6:38 p.m.

The Board returned to open session at 7:29 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

May 13, 2025 and May 13, 2025 Closed

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Mr. Hevia, to approve the minutes of the May 13, 2025, regular meeting of the Board of Education; the minutes of the closed session of the May 13, 2025, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.

Ayes: Hoover, Zekiri, Radogno, Hevia, Marren, Conover Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

CONSENT AGENDA

INFORMATION and DISCUSSION

1. Parent Liason Update

Edith Courington, Bilingual Director/Personnel and Community Outreach Coordinator, and Hedit Leon, Parent Liaison, shared with the Board about their work with families over the past year. Ms. Leon translates, offers support to new families with registration and conferences, and more. She creates a bridge between families and the school. The Board is very appreciative of all she does and the services she provides.

2. Quality Review

Dr. Carla Braun, Director of Continuous School Improvement and Professional Learning, reviewed each school's end-of-year data and growth for the schools this past year. She reviewed the following:

● CUSD 201 End of Year Recap

● Chronic Absenteeism

● Access

● Student Behaviors

● ELA Growth

● Promising Practices PLC at Work

● WHS Notes about the Data

● Ambassador PLC

● Meeting Goals

3. Administrator Job Title Change

The District is considering making a few changes to administrator job titles. The title changes will not cost the District anything. The new job titles will include a few administrators receiving the title of assistant superintendent.

4. Monthly Financials

The financials are available for viewing in BoardDocs.

5. SELF Worker’s Compensation

A memo in BoardDocs is attached regarding the price increase to workers compensation.

6. Architect Contract with Legat Architects

At this time, the District is still working on a contract for Legat.

7. Policy- First Reading

The Board is being presented with policies for the first review at tonight's meeting. All the policies being presented for changes are attached in BoardDocs. They will be presented for a second reading and approval on July 15, 2025.

8. Board Portal Software

After reviewing two products for the Board meeting portal, the District has decided to stay with BoardDocs. BoardDocs will be migrating to a new platform in September called Diligent.

ACTION ITEMS

1. Approval of Authorization to Pay Additional June/July Bills for Fiscal Year 2025

Motion by Ms. Radogno, second by Mr. Marren, to authorize and direct the Treasurer to pay any additional bills received in June/July 2025 that have been budgeted for in the current fiscal year.

2. Adoption of 2025-2026 Routine

Business Office Resolutions

Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the adoption of the routine 2025-2026 Business Office Resolutions, as presented.

Ayes: Hevia, Marren, Conover, Hoover, Zekiri, Radogno Nays: None

3. Approval of WCMA Contract

Motion by Dr. Hoover, second by Marren, to approve the Bargaining Agreement between the Westmont Custodial and Maintenance Association and the Board of Education for Community Unit School District 201 for July 1, 2025 - June 30, 2029, as presented.

Ayes: Marren, Conover, Hoover, Zekiri, Radogno, Hevia Nays: None

4. SELF Worker’s Compensation Renewal

Motion by Ms. Radogno, second by Ms. Zekiri, to approve SELF Worker’s Compensation renewal in the amount of $146,706.00 for the 2025-2026 school year, as presented.

5. Approval of Non-Certified Staff Salary Increases for the 2025-2026 School Year

Motion by Ms. Zekiri, second by Dr. Hoover, to approve the non-certified salary increases for the 2025-2026 school year, as presented.

Communication

Superintendent Baldermann would like to just reiterate the great news Dr. Braun has shared with the Board during the quality review.

BOARD REPORTS

Mr. Hevia attended the DuPage County IASB meeting. They would love to have more participants from the school Boards. Mr. Hevia will share upcoming meeting dates with the Board.
