City of Metropolis City Council met May 27.

· AWARDS RECOGNITION

a) Firefighter Nick Griffey – Life saving award

b) Engineer Mason Stewart – Performed CPR off duty at an event in Karnak

c) Engineers Ashton McDuffee, Mason Stewart, Captain Chad Beaumont, and Police Chief Harry Masse – Performed CPR which resulted in saving a life at a local business.

· MAYOR’S REPORT

a) Motion to approve/reject payment to H.E. Mitchell Construction Company, Inc. in the amount of $33,609.93 for replacement of existing T-Hangar with a 6-Unit T-Hanger building.

b) Motion to approve/reject two new service contracts from Howard D. Happy for Toshiba E-Studio 3015AC with serial # SNAL85698 and serial #SNAL85685.

c) Motion to approve/reject quote from Municipal Equipment Company in the amount of $6,254.00 for the Wastewater Treatment Plant for parts.

d) Motion to approve/reject quote from RS Trailer Sales in the amount of $7,295.00 for a new trailer for the Water Department/Water Treatment Plant.

e) Motion to approve/reject payment to McKeel Equipment Co., INC. in the amount of $1,775.00 for the purchase of infield mix for the baseball field.

f) Motion to approve/reject payment to CDS Office Technologies in the amount of $73,128.89 for new laptops and mounting equipment for the police patrol cars.

g) Motion to approve/reject payment to NOVACOM in the amount of $8,732.47 for invoice #2 for the Fire Department’s new radio system approved in the 2024-2025 budget.

h) Motion to approve/reject road closure on 6/19/25 from Vienna St. thru 7th & 8th St. for 1st Missionary Baptist Church’s Annual Juneteenth Block Party from 8 AM – 4 PM.

The following 2 Motions will be road closures for the Hometown Celebration and Fireworks on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

i) Motion to accept or reject road closures for the July 3rd – 5th for the purpose of a designated launching area for the fireworks. From 1st St. & Girard up to 2nd, Girard, heading east on 2nd St. to dead end, cutting back towards 1st St.

j) Motion to accept or reject road closures for the July 5th Hometown Celebration and Fireworks event as follows: July 5th where Harrah’s inflatables, food, and music, close 2nd St. between Market and Ferry.

k) Motion to approve/reject to hire Travis Baker, recommended by the Fire & Police Commission, to fill the vacancy on the Police Department created by the resignation of CJ Harrell.

· CORPORATE COUNSEL REPORT

a) First reading of Ordinance Amending Title XI, Chapter 110, Alcohol, Of The Code Of Metropolis To Revise A Section §110.20, Operating Hours For Retail Premises.

b) Adopt An Ordinance Amending Title IX, Chapter 90, Animals, Of The Code Of Metropolis To Revise A Section 90.05, Prohibition Of Livestock And Non-Domesticated Animals Within City Limits.

c) First reading of Ordinance Establishing A Social Media Posting Policy For Official Accounts.

d) Adopt An Ordinance Approving A Redevelopment Agreement By And Between City Of Metropolis And D.C. Management, LLC And Darren Tockstein And Corey Bowman.
