City of Metropolis City Council met April 14.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. on  Monday, April 14th, 24, 2025, in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois.  Upon roll call the following Council members were present: Alderwoman Michele Longworth, Aldermen  Chuck Short, Dylan Chambers, Brian Anderson, Darryl Neill, Al Wagner, Jeremy Holley, Chad Lewis,  Mayor Don Canada, Corporate Counsel Andrew Leonard, City Clerk Jan Adams and concerned citizens of  Metropolis.

Moved by Alderman Jeremy Holley and second by Alderman Chad Lewis to approve payment to Crocket Howard Properties, LLC (106 W 7th Street) for the completed Business Improvement Grant project (new windows) in the amount to $1,890.00

CORPORATE COUNSEL:  

No motion was made to amend Ordinance Title IX, Chapter 90, Animals, of the Code of Metropolis to Revise a Section 90.05, Prohibition of Livestock and Non-Domesticated Animals within City Limits. They will bring back at a later date for council approval.  

DEPARTMENT HEADS:  

OLD BUSINESS:  

NEW BUSINESS:  

The mayor asked for permission to move forward with a bid from Quint Utilities & Escavating in the amount of $29,420.00 to install approximately 210 linear feet of 8-inch sewer main with three service taps located at Ninth & Pearl Streets due to the urgency of the matter. Alderman Holley felt we need to go out for bids to complete the project. Bid opening is Friday, April 25th, 2025, at 1:00 pm  The Metropolis City Council dedicated funds to constructing the sanitary project on Ninth & Pearl Street. 

MISCELLANEOUS REPORTS:  

FINANCIAL REPORT:  

Moved by Alderman Darryl Neill and second by Alderman Chad Lewis to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of current Salaries, Payroll and Contract bills.
