Mike Bost, the representative for Illinois' 12th Congressional District, said that President Trump's executive order on election integrity will enhance overall trust in the election process. He made this remark in a Facebook post on March 25.

"Election integrity is the foundation of our Republic," said Bost, U.S. Representative, according to Facebook. "I'm pleased President Trump is taking action to restore trust at the ballot box. His new executive order today strengthens voter citizenship verification, cracks down on foreign interference, and ensures every vote cast is legal. It's simple: only American citizens should vote in American elections."

On March 25, President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order focused on preserving and protecting the integrity of American elections. The order mandates state governments to ensure compliance with federal laws, safeguarding elections against illegal voting, discrimination, fraud, and other forms of malfeasance and error. It addresses concerns over inadequate enforcement of federal election requirements, particularly regarding the counting of ballots received after Election Day and preventing noncitizens from registering to vote. Additionally, the order directs the Elections Assistance Commission to require documentary proof of citizenship for national vote-by-mail registrations.

According to NPR, individuals must swear they are citizens eligible to vote when registering for federal elections and provide a driver's license number, state ID, or social security number under penalty of perjury. However, Sean Morales-Doyle from the Brennan Center for Justice criticized the directive requiring documentary proof of citizenship as illegal.

Bost has represented Illinois' 12th District since January 6, 2015. A lifelong resident of Murphysboro, he has extensive experience in state politics and served as the House Republican Caucus Chair in the Illinois State House of Representatives for two decades. He is also a former member of the U.S. Marine Corps and worked at Bost Trucking Service before joining the Murphysboro Fire Department.
