A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Johnson County Il Clerk Election Division regarding a comprehensive list of candidates running in the upcoming spring election. The request was made on February 5, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs at Southern Illinois News, we requested specific details about each candidate. This includes their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.
In addition to this information, we also requested contact details for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
The Johnson County Il Clerk Election Division has yet to respond to our request. We will continue to update our readers as more information becomes available.
