FOIA Request to Massac County Il Clerk & Elections Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Southern Illinois News have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) for records pertaining to the upcoming elections.
Our request specifically asks for a list of all candidates running in the forthcoming election. The information sought includes each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and their party affiliation. We have also requested contact information for each candidate, including their address, phone number, and email address.
We believe that access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities as journalists. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As such, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
This request forms part of our ongoing efforts to keep the public informed about key developments in local government affairs. We will continue to strive for transparency and accountability in all aspects of our reporting.
