FOIA Request to Union County Il Clerk & Elections Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

On behalf of Southern Illinois News, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) for records pertaining to the upcoming spring election.

The specific details requested include a list of all candidates running in the forthcoming election. We have asked for the candidate's first, middle, and last names along with the office they are running for and its jurisdiction. Additionally, we have requested information about each candidate's party affiliation.

To ensure complete transparency and accountability in our reporting, we also asked for all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization engaged in gathering and disseminating news to the public, access to such public records is vital for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. In light of our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We eagerly await the response from Union County Il Clerk & Elections Division so that we can continue providing comprehensive coverage on local governmental affairs.
