FOIA Request Sent to Pope County Clerk Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

FOIA Request to Pope County Clerk Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In our ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Southern Illinois News have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Pope County Clerk. The request was made for records pertaining to the upcoming spring elections in Illinois.

Specifically, we asked for a list of all candidates running in these elections. The information requested includes the first, middle, and last names of the candidates, the office they are running for, their jurisdiction, and their party affiliation.

In addition to this basic candidate information, we also requested contact details for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such public records is essential for us at Southern Illinois News. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the Pope County Clerk's office and will continue our commitment to delivering accurate and timely news about local government affairs.
