A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Shawnee Community Unit School District 84 in Illinois on January 28, 2025. The request, made by Southern Illinois News, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks access to all emails and memos from the past year containing specific keywords.
The keywords mentioned in the request are "Lucy Calkins" and "Units of Study". As a news organization, we believe that access to these public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In line with our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the provisions of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
