FOIA Request to Massac County Sheriff Office Regarding 2024 Arrest Records on January 7, 2025.
In a bid to ensure transparency and hold public institutions accountable, we at Southern Illinois News have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Massac County Sheriff Office. The request was sent on January 7, 2025, seeking comprehensive data about all arrests made in the county during the year 2024.
The information requested includes details such as the arrestee's name, date of arrest, gender, race, date of birth, and the crime committed. We believe that access to these records is essential for our mission of providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
As a media organization dedicated to serving the public interest through diligent reporting and investigative journalism, we've asked for this information preferably in an electronic format. This would allow us to efficiently analyze and report on trends or issues related to law enforcement in Massac County.
We've also requested a fee waiver for this information under the provisions of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. As members of the media engaged in gathering and disseminating news to the public, we are eligible for such waivers.
Our goal is to use this information responsibly to shed light on law enforcement activities within our community and foster an environment of transparency and accountability. We eagerly await a response from the Massac County Sheriff Office regarding our request.
