Massac County Unit School District #1 Board of Education met Oct. 28.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

A Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Massac County Unit School District No. 1, Massac County, Illinois, was called to order in the Board Room of the Massac County Unit 1 Board Office, located at 2939 Old Marion Rd, Metropolis, IL, in said District at 6:30 PM by Mr. Mark Souders.

Upon a roll call, the following members answered present:

Present: Jeff Brugger

William Holt

Don Koch

Jennifer Larrison

Mark Souders

John Willis

Also Present: Jason Hayes, Superintendent

Kristin Rousseau, Supt/Board Secretary

At 6:30 PM with a motion from Brugger and a second from Holt, the Board voted to go to Closed Session to consider information relative to employment, appointment, or dismissal of specific employees or officers, collective negotiating matters between employers and their employees or representatives; to discuss litigation – probable, imminent, pending or file. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

At 7:24 PM the Board returned to Open Session.

A motion was made by Koch and seconded by Larrison to approve the consent agenda consisting of Minutes/Treasurer’s Report/Bills/Payroll. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:

With a motion from Holt and a second from Willis the Board voted to Approve Policy Updates: 2:260, 2:265, 5:100, & 7:20 (Posted Online). Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

New Business:

With a motion from Brugger and a second from Koch the Board voted to Approve the FY24 District Audit as presented. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

Mr. Koch recognized and thanked those who worked for the zero findings audit.

With a motion from Willis and a second from Koch the Board voted to Approve the use of the FY25 School Maintenance Grant to replace the flat portion of the Metropolis Elementary School roof. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion from Brugger and a second from Holt the Board voted to Appoint Patrick Howell to fill the vacant Board position through the April 2025 election and seating of the new Board. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion from Willis and a second from Koch the Board voted to Approve the use of the FY25 School Maintenance Grant to replace the flat portion of the Metropolis Elementary School roof. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion from Willis and a second from Koch the Board voted to Accept bids for district trash removal service. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

Personnel:

With a motion made by Brugger and seconded by Willis the Board voted to Approve the Resignation of Jeremy Pirtle as the MJHS Assistant Baseball Coach. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion made by Brugger and seconded by Holt the Board voted to Approve the following new hires: Mendy Harris-MJHS Boys Soccer Coach, Wilbur Lindsey-MCHS Girls Bowling Coach, Kyle Reinwald-MCHS Assistant Girls Soccer Coach, Brian Clark-Brookport Boys Head Basketball Coach, Jerry Gillette-Brookport Girls Head Basketball Coach, Emily Wilke-Unity Girls Head Basketball Coach, Jared Sexton-Unity Boys Head Basketball Coach, Ryan White-Franklin Boys Head Basketball Coach, Corby Hight-Franklin Girls Head Basketball Coach, Tyson Bormann-Jefferson Boys Head Basketball Coach, Jacki Horman-Jefferson Girls head Basketball Coach, Travis Adamson-Franklin Volunteer Boys Basketball Coach. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion made by Brugger and seconded by Willis the Board voted to Expel Student C for two years. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion made by Brugger and seconded by Koch the Board voted to Expel Student D for the remainder of the school year. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion made by Brugger and seconded by Willis the Board voted to Expel Student E for the remainder of the school year. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.

Bill Holt announced that, due to an upcoming move to McCracken county, he will be resigning from the Board effective following the November meeting.

With a motion from Brugger and a second from Holt the Board voted to adjourn at 7:47 PM. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Willis and Souders voted yes. Motion carried.
