A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Mounds regarding new and active residential and commercial building permits on October 30, 2024.
As a team at Southern Illinois News, we are committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. In order to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we requested access to specific records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
The information sought includes a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, until the present date. The details required for each permit include the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address of the property, and contractor's name.
Additionally, we have also requested a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same fields as mentioned above are required for these active permits.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public as a media organization, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as per the provisions of the FOIA. This access to public records is essential for us at Southern Illinois News to ensure that we continue providing comprehensive coverage on local government affairs.
