A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Pulaski County, Illinois, on October 7, 2024. The request was made by Southern Illinois News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request sought access to the county's FOIA logs from January 1, 2024, through October 7, 2024. The requested information included the requester's name and organization, the content of the request, the date of the request and its completion date, as well as the status of the FOIA.

As a media organization, Southern Illinois News stated that access to public records is crucial for fulfilling their professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given their role in disseminating information, they believe they are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

In other news related to Illinois' public affairs, Governor JB Pritzker announced in July 2023 an extensive multi-year program called Rebuild Illinois. This program aims to improve and repair all modes of transportation across the state with an investment of over $40 billion over six years.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, ten major projects are planned or being implemented in Chicago under this program. With an investment of $396 million in these projects alone, safety and mobility on Illinois's roads and bridges are expected to improve significantly. Three out of these ten projects are scheduled for completion in 2024 while the remaining seven will be completed between 2025 and 2030.

In Kane County specifically, seven projects worth $107 million are set for completion under Rebuild Illinois. Central Cook County is also seeing significant investment with $220 million being allocated for ten projects to construct roads and bridges. These initiatives are part of the broader effort to modernize Illinois' infrastructure and enhance the state's transportation systems.
