City of Metropolis City Council met Sept. 23.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23RD, 2024, in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Council members were present: Alderwoman Michele Longworth, Alderman Jeremy Holley, Chad Lewis, Brian Anderson, Dylan Chambers, Darryl Neill, Al Wagner, Chuck Short, Mayor Don Canada, City Clerk Jan Adams and concerned citizens of Metropolis. Corporate Counsel Andrew Leonard was absent.

Moved by Alderman Jeremy Holley and second by Alderwoman Michele Longworth to approve the minutes of the previous meeting held meeting on 9-9-2024 as presented. MOTION CARRIED:

CORPORATE COUNSEL:

Cannon Lewis was awarded 1601 Market Street with a solo bid in the amount of $200.

ORDINANCE COMMITTEE:

It was the consensus coming out of the Ordinance committee meeting to strike the last sentence in section 31.026 stating; The mayor shall not have any other outside noncity employment or business requiring more than an average of five house per week of his or her time, and other wise the mayor shall devote the whole of his or her time to the management of city affairs

and section 31.073 stating; The city clerk shall not have any other outside noncity employment or business requiring more than an average of five house per week of his or her time, and otherwise the city clerk shall devote the whole of his or her time to the management of city affairs

Moved by Alderman Chuck Short and second by Alderman Dylan Chambers to Adopt an Ordinance Amending Title III, Administration, Chapter 31, City Officers and Employes, Section 31. 026 and 31.073 Term of Office 2024-15

Alderman Wagner noted the junk store located on 818 West 10TH Street has been cleaning up the furniture and debris that is continually left outside.

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Moved by Alderman Chad Lewis and second by Alderman Jeremy Holley to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of current Salaries, Payroll and Contract bills.
