Community Unit School District #201 Board of Education met Sept. 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER 

On September 10, 2024 at 6:41 p.m. Vice-president Conover called to order the regular meeting of the Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education. 

Roll Call 

Members Present: Adina Hoover, Whitney Rogers, Jessica Radogno, Carlos Hevia, Angela Steketee, Kevin Marren, Leah Conover 

Also present: Superintendent Jack Baldermann, Business Manager, Anthony Ruelli, the Superintendent’s Administrative Assistant, Shannon Cossairt. Pledge of Allegiance Leah Conover led the Assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

CLOSED SESSION 

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Ms. Radogno, to enter closed session to discuss personnel issues, student discipline and sale or lease of real property.

Ayes: Steketee, Marren, Hevia, Rogers, Radogno, Conover, Hoover

Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

The Board entered closed session at 6:41 p.m.

The Board returned to open session at 7:37 p.m

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

August 13, 2024

Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the minutes of the August 13, 2024, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.

Ayes: Steketee, Marren, Hevia, Rogers, Radogno, Conover, Hoover

Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

August 13 - Closed 

Motion by Ms. Steketee, second by Ms. Rogers, to approve the minutes of the closed session of the August 13, 2024, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented. 

Ayes: Steketee, Marren, Hevia, Rogers, Radogno, Conover, Hoover

Nays: None

Motion Carried.

PUBLIC COMMENT 

No public comment at this time.

CONSENT AGENDA 

Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the consent agenda as presented:

1. Personnel Recommendations:

● Susan Baroni, Long Term Sub, WJHS English

● Meghan Rafferty, Teaching Assistant

● Peter Trovato, Night Supervisor at WHS

● Rosario Del Valle, General Worker, Food Service

INFORMATION and DISCUSSION

Crisis Plan

Superintendent Baldermann let the Board know the over the summer the Administrative Team met with representatives from the Westmont Police and Fire Departments. They discussed the previous year’s drills and what went well and what needs improvement. The team then makes any necessary revisions to the District’s Crisis Plan. The plan is shared with the local police and fire, but it is not typically shared with the general public to help maintain security.

 WJHS Math Consultant 

The junior high has doubled the amount of math minutes for the students and has implemented a new curriculum. They would like to hire a consultant to help the staff with all the changes. The contract will be presented for approval later in the meeting. 

Enrollment 

The 6th day enrollment of the buildings is attached in BoardDocs for review. 

Pool Boiler Donation 

Hinsdale Swim Club is donating the funds necessary to install, service and maintain a new boiler for the Westmont HIgh School swimming pool. The swim club will pay all the costs related to the boiler and District 201 will help procure the permit, purchase the equipment. The donation of this equipment is essential to keep the pool running. CUSD 201 is grateful for the partnership with Hinsdale Swim Club.

Pool Filter Donation 

Similar to the boiler donation, Hinsdale Swim Club will be donating the necessary parts for the filtration system for the Westmont High School swimming pool. CUSD 201 is grateful for the partnership with Hinsdale Swim Club. This donation along with the boiler keeps the pool open not just for the swim club but for the Westmont High School Students. 

Facilities Planning Consultant Update 

In the spring of 2024 the Board approved a contract with EOSullivan for consulting services in regards to facilities planning. The contract was approved to not exceed $85,000. To date the District has paid $54,835.54. The District is anticipating a few more invoices. 

Facilities Information Update 

CUSD 201 will be hosting a series of town hall meetings and tours of Manning Elementary. We encourage everyone in the CUSD 201 community to attend the event. We will be advertising the town halls through various means, including social media, website and postcards. 

ACTION ITEMS 

1. Approval of WJHS Math Consultant 

Motion by Ms. Hoover, second by Mr. Marren, to to approve the WJHS Math Consulting Contact with Forest Education Consulting LLC. in the amount of $20,000 for the 2024-2025 school year as presented. 

Ayes: Hevia, Rogers, Radogno, conover, Hoover, Steketee, Marren 

Nays: None 

Motion Carried. 

2. Approval of Pool Boiler Donation 

Motion by Ms. Steketee, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the donation from Hinsdale Swim Club to cover the costs to install, service, and maintain a new boiler for the Westmont High School swimming pool, as presented. 

Ayes: Rogers, Radogno, Conover, Hoover, Steketee, Marren, Hevia 

Nays: None. 

Motion Carried. 

3. Approval of Pool Filter Donation 

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Ms. Steketee, to approve the pool filter donation from Hinsdale Swim Club, as presented.

Ayes: Radogno, Conover, Hoover,STeketee, Marren Hevia, Rogers

Nays: None.

Motion Carried

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT

Communication 

Superintendent Baldermann announced a series of town hall meeting and tours of Manning the District will be hosting over the next couple of weeks. 

The Board of Education will have a open seats in the April consolidated Election. Information is on the CUSD 201 website and the DuPage County website.

Ms. Steketee announced that fall sports are taking place. Mr. Marren gave a shoutout about the new band uniforms.
