Hardin County Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met April 30.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The Regular called meeting of the Hardin County Community Unit School District No. 1 met in the board room at the District office. The meeting was called to order by Britt Belford at 6:31 p.m. Present were: Greg McDowell, Britt Belford, Ryan Cowsert, Jana Cowgill, Colby Potts and Ryan Vaughn. Mike Dutton was absent.

Keith Williax, Aaron Bishop, Rylie and Brenda Hall, Denver Cowsert and members of the HCEA were recognized as guests. Rylie addressed the Board with information about her upcoming study abroad.

A motion was made by Potts and seconded by Vaughn to approve the consent agenda as presented with the exception of the Baysinger billing of which only $20,000 should be paid. McDowell, yes; Belford, yes; Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes; Cowgill, yes; Vaughn, yes. 6 yes, 0 no, motion carried.

Administrative Reports: Mr. Cruson expressed appreciation to the Board for opportunity to serve as Dean of Students. Mrs. Armstrong reported on professional development training and prom. She updated the Board on events happening over the next few weeks. Mr. Edmondson reported on the EV buses, grants and projects happening around the school. He also asked for permission to have new foul poles added at both ball fields, permission granted and which type of flooring was preferred in the outside gym. - Regular tile was chosen.

A motion was made by Belford and seconded by McDowell to authorize the amendment of the 2023-24 budget. Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes; Cowgill, yes; Vaughn, yes; McDowell, yes; Belford, yes.

A motion was made by Potts and seconded by Vaughn for authorization to seek bids for the 2024-25 school year. Cowsert, yes; Vaughn, yes; McDowell, yes; Belford, yes; Potts, yes; Cowgill, yes.

The District will seek options to replace the current school van.

A motion was made by Cowgill and seconded by Vaughn to approve the 2024-25 calendar as presented with the exception of moving XHS day in October. Cowgill, yes; Vaughn, yes; McDowell, yes; Belford, yes; Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes.

A motion was made by Belford and seconded by Potts to approve the Press Policy updates. Vaughn, yes; McDowell, yes; Belford, yes; Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes; Cowgill, yes.

A motion was made by Cowsert and seconded by McDowell to approve the FFA State Convention trip. Vaughn, yes; McDowell, yes; Belford, yes; Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes; Cowgill, yes.

A motion was made by Belford and seconded by Vaughn to enter into executive session at 7:23 p.m. McDowell, yes; Belford, yes; Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes; Cowgill, yes; Vaughn, yes.

A motion was made by Potts and seconded by Vaughn to exit executive session at 9:07 p.m. Belford, yes; Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes; Cowgill, yes; Vaughn, yes; McDowell, yes.

A motion was made by Belford and seconded by Cowgill to approve the April 30th BOE sheet as presented.

Approve Substitute custodian - Megan Carter

Approve Teachers for 2024-25 school year - Tayler Threet as High School English Teacher, Rhiannon Skoog as High School History Teacher, Riley Donoho as Jr. High History Teacher. Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes; Cowgill, yes; Vaughn, yes; McDowell, yes; Belford, yes.
