City of Metropolis City Council met Jan. 8.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 8th, 2024, in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Council members were present: Alderwoman Michele Longworth, Aldermen Chad Lewis, Jermey Holley, Chuck Short, Al Wagner, Dylan Chambers, Brian Anderson, Darryl Neill, Corporate Counsel Andrew Leonard, Mayor Don Canada, City Clerk Jan Adams and concerned citizens of Metropolis.

Moved by Alderman Darryl Neill and second by Alderman Chad Lewis to approve the minutes of the previous meeting held on 12-11-2023 as presented.

MAYOR’S REPORT:

Misty Meadows requested reimbursement which represents eligible TIF project costs incurred in 2023. The repair and remodeling costs met the terms of the Redevelopment Agreement made with the City of Metropolis.

Moved by Alderman Chad Lewis and second by Alderwoman Michele Longworth to approve payment of TIF funds in the amount of $53,777.47 to Misty Meadows.

Both the City of Metropolis Fire Department and City of Paducah Fire Department regularly perform land and water fire prevention, extraction and rescue operations and have a desire to coordinate joint responses. The City of Paducah Fire Department and City of Metropolis will respond jointly to water fire and rescue emergencies in Paducah and McCracken County, Metropolis, and the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers. The Interlocal Agreement will be renewed annually.

Moved by Alderman Al Wagner and second by Alderwoman Michele Longworth to approve Interlocal Agreement for Water Rescue Services with City of Paducah, KY.

The mayor announced the holiday closing for City Hall and all Public Works Departments, Monday. Dec 15th to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day and January 31st, closed for City Wide training from 10:45 am – 1:00 pm.

NEW BUSINESS:

Alderman Chambers complimented the new website metropolisil.gov. and phone app Rebecca Reed created. Both website and app provide easy navigation to city news, events, alerts and provide fillable documents for services needed. The app can be downloaded at Apple App Store or Google Play.

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Moved by Alderman Darryl Neill and second by Alderman Chad Lewis to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of current Salaries, Payroll and Contract bills.

Moved by Alderman Dylan Chambers and second by Alderman Brian Anderson to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of miscellaneous bills.
