Massac County Unit School District #1 Board of Education met Dec. 18.

Here is the agenda provided by the board:

The Truth in Taxation Hearing was called to order at 5:30 PM by Mr. Don Koch. Upon a roll call, the following members answered present:

Present: William Holt

Kelly Jennings

Don Koch

Jennifer Larrison

John Willis

Also Present: Jason Hayes, Superintendent

Kristin Rousseau, Supt/Board Secretary

Absent: Jeff Brugger

Mark Souders

Public Comment: None

Superintendent Jason Hayes gave an explanation of the Tax Levy.

With a motion from Larrison and a second from Willis the Board voted to adjourn the Hearing at 5:33 PM. Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.

A Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Massac County Unit School District No. 1, Massac County, Illinois, was called to order in the Library of the Massac County High School, located at 2841 Old Marion Rd, Metropolis, IL, in said District at 5:33 PM by Mr. Don Koch.

Upon a roll call, the following members answered present:

Present: William Holt

Kelly Jennings

Don Koch

Jennifer Larrison

John Willis

Also Present: Jason Hayes, Superintendent

Kristin Rousseau, Supt/Board Secretary

Absent: Jeff Brugger

Mark Souders

At 5:34 PM with a motion from Jennings and a second from Larrison, the Board voted to go to Closed Session to consider information relative to employment, appointment, or dismissal of specific employees or officers, collective negotiating matters between employers and their employees or representatives; to discuss litigation – probable, imminent, pending or file. Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.

At 5:48 PM the Board returned to Open Session.

A Public Hearing concerning Proposed Working Cash Bonds was called to order at 5:51 PM by Mr. Don Koch.

Upon a roll call, the following members answered present:

John Willis

Also Present: Jason Hayes, Superintendent

Kristin Rousseau, Supt/Board Secretary

Absent: Jeff Brugger

Public Comment: None

Superintendent Jason Hayes gave an explanation of the Proposed Cash Fund Bonds.

With a motion from Larrison and a second from Willis the Board voted to adjourn the Hearing and return to Regular Session at 5:52 PM. Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.

Public Comment/Invited Guests:

None.

A motion was made by Jennings and seconded by Holt to approve the consent agenda consisting of Minutes/Treasurer’s Report/Bills/Payroll. Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.

New Business:

With a motion from Jennings and a second from Holt the Board voted to Approve the Final Tax Resolution for Tax Year 2023 as presented. Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion from Larrison and a second from Jennings the Board voted to Approve the Resolution declaring the intention to issue $1,900,000 Working Cash Fund Bonds of the District, for the purpose of increasing the Working Cash Fund of the District. Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion from Jennings and a second from Willis the Board voted to Approve Massac Junior High School joining the Big 7 Conference (current members included Benton, Carbondale, Carterville, Harrisburg, Herring, and Marion). Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion from Larrison and a second from Willis the Board voted to Approve the 2024 Graduation Dates: Massac Junior High-Thursday, May 16, 2024; Massac County High School-Friday, May 17, 2024 both at 7:00 PM. Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.

Personnel:

With a motion made by Jennings and seconded by Willis the Board voted to Approve the Resignation of Barb Lindsey-MJHS Cook (December 6, 2023). Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion made by Willis and seconded by Jennings the Board voted to Approve the Hiring of Amelia Quint-Brookport Teacher Aide. Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion made by Larrison and seconded by Jennings the Board voted to Approve Patrick Howell as a Volunteer Coach for MCHS Football. Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion made by Jennings and seconded by Willis the Board voted to Expel Student E and Student F for one calendar year. Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion from Larrison and a second from Jennings the Board voted to adjourn at 6:05 PM. Roll call: Holt, Jennings, Koch, Larrison, and Willis voted yes. Motion carried.
