City of Metropolis City Council met Sept. 11.

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 11th, 2023 in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Council members were present: Alderwoman Michele Longworth, Aldermen Chad Lewis, Brian Anderson, Chuck Short, Jeremy Holley, Al Wagner, Dylan Chambers, Darryl Neill, Corporate Counsel Andrew Leonard, Mayor Don Canada, City Clerk Jan Adams and concerned citizens of Metropolis.

MAYOR’S REPORT:
Moved by Alderman Chuck Short and second by Alderman Chad Lewis to approve flu shots for all city employees as well as elected officials at a cost of $50 each to be given later; date to be determined. The cost will be covered by the city in an effort to be flu-free;

We received three bids for 909 Pearl Street:
Eugene Geroge bid: $1,000
Misleni Valdivieso bid: $1,200
Darrell George bid: $1,200
*The motion was Tabled due to a tie bid. They will be requested to turn in another sealed bid to open at the next council meeting September 25, 2023.
Two bids were received for 204 East 11th Street:
Marissa Ferreira bid $200
Christine Parmer was awarded the bid in the amount of $300

OLD BUSINESS:
Alderman Jeremy Holley noted the “no parking” signs have been placed along the I-24 ramps. Holley had requested in the past we reach out to IDOT for “Do Not Litter” signs for the ramps since they are continually littered. We do not want this to be the first and last impression of Metropolis. Mayor Canada added, the Metropolis Police Dept can now enforce the “no parking” laws especially the semi-drivers who park overnight and hopefully this will help with the littering.
NEW BUSINESS:
Alderman Holley expressed his appreciation to the Street Department for repainting over the graffiti on the ICR bridge on 10th Street. The city had cleaned the bridge earlier in the year from the same vandalism.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Moved by Alderwoman Michele Longworth and second by Alderman Jeremy Holley to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of current Salaries, Payroll and Contract bills; MOTION CARRIED:
