City of Metropolis City Council met Aug. 28.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 28th, 2023 in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Council members were present: Alderwoman Michele Longworth, Aldermen Brian Anderson, Chuck Short, Jeremy Holley, Al Wagner, Dylan Chambers, Darryl Neill, Corporate Counsel Andrew Leonard, Mayor Don Canada, City Clerk Jan Adams and concerned citizens of Metropolis. Alderman Chad Lewis was absent.

ROLL CALL:

Moved by Alderman Darryl Neill and second by Alderman Jeremy Holley to approve the minutes of the previous meeting held on 8-14-2023 as presented;

MAYOR’S REPORT:

Moved by Alderman Jeremy Holley and second by Alderwoman Michele Longworth to accept road closure of US 45 from Ferry to 7th Street for Labor Day Parade;

The annual Homecoming Parade is September 22nd, 2023.

Moved by Alderman Dylan Chambers and second by Alderman Al Wagner to accept road closure of Market from 9th St to 5th Street from Market to Ferry St and Ferry Street from 5th St to 3rd St from Homecoming Parade;

Moved by Alderman Darryl Neill and second by Alderman Jeremy Holley to accept regularly scheduled meeting of the Metropolis City Council for the year 2024.

Moved by Alderman Jeremy Holley and second by Alderwoman Michele Longworth to accept proposed auditing services from Beussink, Hey, Roe & Stroder, LLC in the amount of $49,500;

Moved by Alderman Al Wagner and second by Alderman Darryl Neill to approve payment for a completed Business Improvement Grant awarded to the Lange Chiropractic in the amount of $2,500;

CORPORATE COUNSEL:

Moved by Alderman Dylan Chambers and second by Alderman Jeremy Holley to seek bids for the sale of improved property located at 207-209 West 20th Street, Metropolis, Illinois;

DEPARTMENT HEADS:

Alderman Holley questioned how we stop the continual graffiti on the viaducts. The property is owned by the Illinois Central Railroad and have reached out to them several times with no avail. The mayor stated he will reach out to them again.

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Moved by Alderman Jeremy Holley and second by Alderman Brian Anderson to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of current Salaries, Payroll and Contract bills; MOTION CARRIED:

Moved by Alderman Jeremy Holley and second by Alderman Dlyan Chambers to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of miscellaneous bills;
