Hardin County Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Aug. 24.

The Regular called meeting of the Hardin County Community Unit School District No. 1 met in the board room at the District office. The meeting was called to order by Gene Fatheree at 6:32 p.m. Present were: Gene Fatheree, Greg McDowell, Britt Belford, Colby Potts, Ryan Cowsert, Jana Cowgill and Mike Dutton. Administrators present: Andy Edmondson, Ira Cruson, and Susan Armstrong.
Public comments: Several members of the public and members of the HCEA were recognized as guests. The public came in to speak on the behalf of coach Matt Cullum. (Tonya Williams, Erin Lane, Clay Cullum, Darlene Littrell, Jenny Austin, Jessica Headlam, Justin Conkle, Melba Cullum, Jennifer Atkinson, Gary Lane, Ray Borum, Jimmy Spivey, Jessy Bogue, Greg Warren, Wade Gibbons, and Mark Wallace. Others were present but did not address the board.)
Administrative reports:
Mr. Cruson gave updates on Truancy, JH/HS rules, and active shooter drill. Mrs. Armstrong reported on teacher trainings, back to school bash, trauma trainings, as well as individual scores for IAR/SAT. Mr. Edmondson gave updates on construction projects and thanked Mrs. Armstrong for the Para training that was provided.
A motion was made by Cowsert and seconded by Cowgill to approve the consent agenda as presented. McDowell, yes; Belford, yes; Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes; Cowgill, yes; Dutton, yes; Fatheree, yes. 7 yes, 0 no, motion carried.
A motion was made by Belford and seconded by McDowell to approve the bid for the front drive by E.T Simonds for $49,425 with the work to be completed in October. Belford, yes; Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes; Cowgill, yes; Dutton, yes; McDowell, yes; Fatheree, yes. 7 yes, 0 no, motion carried.
A motion was made by Dutton and seconded y Potts to approve the MOU with HCEA for a Trauma Responsive Mental Health Practitioner (School Social Worker). Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes; Cowgill, yes; Dutton, yes; McDowell, yes; Belford, yes; Fatheree, yes. 7 yes, 0 no, motion carried.
The Board discussed the opening of internet (wifi) for staff and students. Mr. Edmondson will meet with the Union to discuss before a decision is made on students. There are regulations that also have to be followed.
A motion was made by Cowsert and seconded by McDowell to approve of the Annual Budget for 2023-24 and place on display with the budget hearing to be held on September 25th 2023. A motion was made by Belford and seconded by Cowsert to enter into executive session at 7:49 p.m. McDowell, yes; Belford, yes; Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes; Cowgill, yes; Dutton, yes; Fatheree, yes.

A motion was made by McDowell and seconded by Cowsert to approve the August 24th BOE sheet as Presented.
- Accept resignations of Paraprofessionals: April Burton and Kendra Williams
- Hire Alisha Foster as Trauma Responsive Mental Health Practitioner (School Social Worker).
- Approve extra-curricular positions: Jr High Volleyball Coach - Kristina Winters, High School Student Council - Kelsi Love, Kelly Oxford - 8th Grade Sponsor.
- Approve employment of paraprofessionals pending certification: Tricinda Milligan as an individual aide and Ashley Nicole Shoemaker as an Individual Nurse.
- Approve additions to the District sub list: Amanda Robinson - Secretary, Nurse, Teacher, Aide
A motion was made by Cowsert and seconded by Cowgill to give a vote of confidence to Matt Cullum as High School Baseball coach. Dutton, yes; McDowell, yes; Belford, yes; Potts, yes; Cowsert, yes; Cowgill, yes; Fatheree, yes. 7 yes, 0 no, motion carried.
