Kaskaskia Community College District #501 Board of Trustees met June 29.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Vice President of Instructional Services Julie Obermark opened the meeting at 12:00 p.m. and introduced President George Evans who led the meeting remotely. President Evans welcomed everyone to the Community Engagement Meeting.

Trustees Linda Stover was in attendance. Kaskaskia College employees in attendance included President Evans (remotely), Alan Boerngen, Cary Day, Joy Fitts, Terri Freeman, Charlee George, Colton Leidner, Kelsey Tate, Julie Obermark, Karol Potter, Byron Shanks, Scott Steward, Kelsey Tate, and Amy Zanton.

Community members in attendance included Carlee Brown, Amanda Dussold, Mike Ennen, Meagan Eyman, Tara Hall, Kathy Hanke, Christine Hilliard, Jeff Leidel, Samantha Leidel, Rebecca Martin, Elaine McNamara, Jerry Moyer, Chad Nelson, Kaye O'Dell, Tonya Roberts, Lauren Robison, Rachel Terry, and Jamie Wise.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Julie Obermark led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

INTRODUCTIONS

Julie Obermark welcomed Trustee Linda Stover of the Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees along with Kaskaskia College Foundation Board of Directors member Jerry Moyer. Vice President of Student Services Amy Zanton introduced herself.

Those in attendance introduced themselves.

STATUS OF KASKASKIA COLLEGE UPDATE

President Evans, Julie Obermark, and Amy Zanton led open discussions regarding enrollment updates, new program updates, and campus modernization projects updates, and overviewed highlights in the 2022-23 President’s Report to the Community distributed at the meeting.

COMMUNITY FEEDBACK

President Evans and Julie Obermark opened the floor to the attendees to ask any questions and to provide feedback on issues related to the college.

MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS AND COLLEGE RESPONSE

Amy Zanton spoke regarding the nation-wide mental health issue. Kaskaskia College is addressing those issues for KC students by offering students access to both online and face-to-face counseling with licensed mental health counselors. Students will also have access to peer-to-peer counseling both online and face-to-face beginning this fall.

These services are confidential and free for students.

DIVERSITY TEAM / WORKFORCE EQUITY INITIATIVE (WEI)

Charlee George presented a program overview and update on the Workforce Equity Initiative (WEI). Attendees viewed the WEI video produced by BAM Marketing on the Kaskaskia College Workforce Equity Initiative which highlighted positive outcomes and individual student success stories. President Evans discussed the development of the Diversity Team.

KC NOW PROGRAM AND AIM PROGRAM

Julie Obermark presented updates to the 8th Grade Career Exploration and KC Now Programs. Julie Obermark and Joy Fitts introduced attendees to the new Aspirations in Manufacturing (AIM) Program.

SURVEY EXPLANATION

Attendees were asked to complete the survey sent to them after the meeting to share any additional feedback.

ADJOURNMENT

The meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
