Kaskaskia Community College District #501 Board of Trustees met June 27.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

Vice President of Instructional Services Julie Obermark opened the meeting at 12:00 p.m. and introduced President George Evans who led the meeting remotely. President Evans welcomed everyone to the Community Engagement Meeting.

Trustees Louis Kalert and Linda Stover were in attendance. Kaskaskia College employees in attendance included President Evans (remotely), Wendy Blythe, Alan Boerngen, Cary Day, Jenna Eldred, Joy Fitts, Terri Freeman, Charlee George, Kelsey Tate, Julie Obermark, Daniel Powell, Karol Potter, Shara Smith, Kelsey Tate, and Amy Zanton.

Community members in attendance included Charles Barenfanger, Jessica Barker, Ty Bates, Dean Black, Bret Brosman, Heidi Cade, Pat Click, Ben Frazier, Rick Gottmann, Steve Henna, Jack Johnston, Jay Jolliff, Karla Rogers, Jerry Schukar, Todd Stapleton, Linda Stover, Bailey Tate, Leonard Teich, Susan Teich, and Dale Timmermann.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

President Evans led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

INTRODUCTIONS

President Evans welcomed Trustees Louis Kalert and Linda Stover of the Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees along with Kaskaskia College Foundation Board of Directors members Ty Bates, Jay Jolliff, and Jack Johnston. President Evans introduced Vice President of Instructional Services Julie Obermark and Vice President of Student Services Amy Zanton who assisted President Evans in presenting information.

Those in attendance introduced themselves.

STATUS OF KASKASKIA COLLEGE UPDATE

President Evans, Julie Obermark, and Amy Zanton led open discussions regarding enrollment updates, new program updates, and campus modernization projects updates, and overviewed highlights in the 2022-23 President’s Report to the Community distributed at the meeting.

COMMUNITY FEEDBACK

President Evans opened the floor to the attendees to ask any questions and to provide feedback on issues related to the college.

MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS AND COLLEGE RESPONSE

Amy Zanton spoke regarding the nation-wide mental health issue. Kaskaskia College is addressing those issues for KC students by offering students access to both online and face-to-face counseling with licensed mental health counselors. Students will also have access to peer-to-peer counseling both online and face-to-face beginning this fall. These services are confidential and free for students.

DIVERSITY TEAM / WORKFORCE EQUITY INITIATIVE (WEI)

Charlee George presented a program overview and update on the Workforce Equity Initiative (WEI). Attendees viewed the WEI video produced by BAM Marketing on the Kaskaskia College Workforce Equity Initiative which highlighted positive outcomes and individual student success stories.

KC NOW PROGRAM AND AIM PROGRAM

Julie Obermark presented updates to the 8th Grade Career Exploration and KC Now Programs. Julie Obermark and Joy Fitts introduced attendees to the new Aspirations in Manufacturing (AIM) Program.

SURVEY EXPLANATION

Attendees were asked to complete the survey sent to them after the meeting to share any additional feedback.

ADJOURNMENT

The meeting adjourned at 1:12 p.m.
