Alden-Hebron School District #19 Board of Education met June 21.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

President Smith called the regular meeting of the Board of Education of Alden-Hebron Community Consolidated Unit School District #19 to order at 7:00 P.M.

ROLL CALL

PRESENT: Mrs. Smith, Mr. Winkelman, Mr. Fritsch, Mr. Eskridge, Mr. Berg, Mrs. Johnson

ABSENT: Mr. Madsen (in at 7:02), Mr. Berg

ALSO PRESENT:

Tiffany Elswick-Superintendent, Katie Beck-SSC, Aaron Butler-MS/HS Principal, Cyndie Erckfritz Transportation, Larry Schmidt-Buildings and Grounds, Tara & Ken Nielsen, Nick Ciccotosto Correspondence

• 5/19/2023-Thank you note from Patti Peisert for the retirement party and for the gift card.

• 5/19/2023-Thank you note from Cyndie Erckfritz for the kind words and the gift card for her retirement.

• 5/26/2023-Thank you note from the Schuler Family for the flowers sent in Jasmine’s memory

• 6/15/2023-FOIA from Katherine Smyser, NBCUniversal: requesting information pertaining to lawsuits related to FOIA requests since 2013. Satisfied on 6/16/2023

BUSINESS

ADMINISTRATION

Eric Slocum-ES Principal-as presented

Aaron Butler-MS/HS Principal-as presented

Mr. Butler then shared data gathered from the MS/HS students’ IAR testing.

Tiffany Elswick – Superintendent – as presented

Mrs. Elswick added:

• The Curriculum & Policy Committee will meet on 7/12/2023

• Annual Safety Meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 26 at 7:00pm Village

Mrs. Smith attended the Village meeting on 5/22/2023. Items discussed include:

• Park rental-waiver of fees for AHMS

• Water and sewer connection fees

• Village IT support

• Payment of loan

• Community Service Officer hired

• Village trustees sworn in

Alden Township

Mr. Madsen attended the Alden Township meeting on 6/8/23. Items discussed include:

• Adopt Town fund budget

• Adopt Road District budget

• Business as usual

PHYSICAL STRUCTURES/MAINTENANCE-as presented

Mr. Schmidt added:

• Crew is ahead of schedule with cleaning

• Shower in the ladies’ locker room is functioning so they will not be converting that to storage

• Roof repair has been completed

• Roof maintenance schedule to start in July

TRANSPORTATION-as presented

Mrs. Erckfritz added:

• Wheel pulls and oil changes have been scheduled for the buses for the summer

• Summer school is underway and the Transportation Department is running 4 routes for the students attending.

STUDENT SERVICES COORDINATOR-as presented

Mrs. Beck added:

• Preschool screening will be on 7/19

• Birth to Three program has openings

• Preschool For All Grant has been submitted

Board Comments

• Mrs. Johnson mentioned the recent passing of Paul Judson and remarked that she is grateful for all that he did to keep the 1952 Championship fresh in everyone’s mind

• Mrs. Smith thanked the AH Admin team for their hard work and diligence in finding and writing for grants to help the district.

Executive Session

Mrs. Johnson moved; Mr. Winkelman seconded to go into executive session at 8:18pm for the purpose of the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance of specific employees, and semiannual review of Executive Session minutes.

Ayes: Mrs. Smith, Mr. Winkelman, Mr. Madsen, Mr. Fritsch, Mr. Eskridge, Mrs. Johnson

Nays: None

Absent: Mr. Berg

Motion Carried

Returned to open session at 8:47pm.

Mrs. Johnson moved; Mr. Fritsch seconded to approve the increase in salary for Superintendent Elswick.

Ayes: Mrs. Smith, Mr. Winkelman, Mr. Madsen, Mr. Fritsch, Mr. Eskridge, Mrs. Johnson

Nays: None

Absent: Mr. Berg

Motion Carried

Adjournment

Mr. Winkelman moved; Mrs. Johnson seconded to adjourn the meeting at 8:50pm.

Motion Carried.
