Pastor McReynolds expressed to the council the need for a location for the monument honoring Oscar Micheaux, Ann Turnbo Malone and her brother John Turnbo by April 1st to secure funding. Several places have been mentioned for the double-sided monument. It measures 60 ½ x 44 and once erected will measure 85 inches in height. The size prohibited some of the choices due to vehicle parking, wheelchair and/or foot traffic and needs to be aesthetically pleasing as well as ADA compliant. McReynolds wants to create awareness of the heritage in the City of Metropolis with the historical marker. Alderman Holley questioned if we commit to a location and it changes will this affect the funding. McReynolds stated that he would need to reapply if the location was changed. The corner of Legence Bank and Chamber of Commerce was decided on since he had not heard back from the county to locate it on the courthouse lawn.
