Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education met Feb. 28.

CALL TO ORDER
On February 28, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. President Hoover called to order the regular meeting of the Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education.
Roll Call
Members present: Adina Hoover, Laura Coyle, Kevin Marren, Angela Steketee, Leah Conover, Carlos Hevia, Jessica Radogno
Also present: Superintendent Kevin Carey, Business Manager Anthony Ruelli, and the Superintendent's Administrative Assistant, Shannon Cossairt
Pledge of Allegiance
President Hoover led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.
The WJHS Jazz Band performed a song for the Board.
CLOSED SESSION
Motion by Ms. Coyle, second by Mr. Marren, to enter closed session to discuss personnel issues, student discipline, and collective bargaining.
Ayes: Steketee, Marren, Radogno, Coyle, Conover, Hevia, Hoover
Nays: None.
Motion Carried.
The Board moved to closed session at 6:04 p.m.
The Board returned to open session at 7:00 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES February 14, 2023
Motion by Ms. Steketee, second by Mr. Hevia, to approve the minutes of the February 14, 2023 regular meeting of the Board of Education, as amended.
Ayes: Steketee, Marren, Radogno, Coyle, Conover, Hevia, Hoover
Nays: None.
Motion Carried.
February 14, 2023 Closed Session
Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the minutes of the closed session of the February 14, 2023, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.
Ayes: Steketee, Marren, Radogno, Coyle, Conover, Hevia, Hoover
Nays: None.
Motion Carried.

INFORMATION/DISCUSSION
Manning Elementary Presentation
Lindsay Pietrzak, Principal of Manning School and Jayda James, Assistant Principal of Manning School, gave the Board a presentation of current events at Manning. The presentation included the following topics:
Culture and Climate
Winning All Year
Curriculum and Instruction
Ms. Pietrzak and Ms. James shared out about some of the many programs Manning has implemented this year. Students, staff and parents all spoke out about the many opportunities and initiatives at Manning. Ms. Pietrzak and Ms. James continued to discuss the curriculum and test scores. They answered questions from the Board.
Presentation of Monthly Financial Statements – January 2023
Anthony Ruelli, CSBO, gave the Board an update on the finances for the month of January. He reviewed revenue and expenses. At this time the District has spent 61.1% of budget. This is higher than previous years.
Summer School Update
Superintendent Carey gave the Board an update on 2023 Summer School, including dates, times and course offerings. Summer school will be by invite only.

WHS Principal Contract
Motion by Ms. Conover, second by Ms. Steketee, to approve 2023-2024 Westmont High School Principal Contract for Dr. Kevin Weck, as presented.
Ayes: Radogno, Coyle, Conover, Hevia, Hoover, Steketee, Marren
Nays: None.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
Communications
Superintendent Carey wants to remind everyone Kindergarten Open House will take place on March 14, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. Also, parent-teacher conferences will take place on March 16 and 17, 2023.

Ms. Steketee wanted to remind everyone that tickets are available for the CUSD 201 Jubilee. She would also like to thank Ms. Burisek and staff for the wonderful Outdoor Ed. Opportunity.
Ms. Conover gave an update on the SASED Board and the anticipated changes.
