Women’s Bowling Caps Regular Season, Finishes Second at Music City Classic

No.1-ranked McKendree University women's bowling finished as the runner-up for its last regular season competition at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tenn. The Bearcats conclude the regular schedule with a 97-17 overall record after an 11-1 performance for the three-day event.

On the first day, McKendree swept five Baker games with a total of 5,146 pins. The Bearcats defeated Marian Univeristy 1,109-833 before capturing a win over Emmanuel College (Ga.) 1,007-854. McKendree faced two ranked opponents in Baker play, topping No.5 Stephen F. Austin 988-914 and No.7 North Carolina A&T State 1,042-998. To round out day one, the Bearcats grabbed a 1,000-813 win over Long Island.

For traditional matches, McKendree posted another perfect 5-0 performance starting with two dominating wins against Tusculum (1,070-750) and Monmouth (1,119-826). To cap day two, the Bearcats recorded victories over No.25 Sacred Heart (1,146-918), No.2 Vanderbilt (1,157-1,024), and Wagner College (968-899). With a total pinfall of 10,606, McKendree was seeded first heading into Sunday's bracket.

The Bearcats faced Sam Houston in round one of the bracket, snagging a 4-0 win to advance to the championship game. Sam Houston defeated Vanderbilt to climb back for a rematch against McKendree in the first-place match. Sam Houston would prevail over the Bearcats to claim the title, deeming McKendree the runner-up.

Individually, four Bearcats placed in the top 15 including senior Rebecca Hagerman who finished third overall to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team with an average of 229.2 pins per game. Graduate student Hope Gramly, senior Maranda Pattison, and fifth-year senior Angelique Dalesandro placed 10th, 11th, and 12th respectively.

Up next, McKendree women's bowling heads to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships at the Strike 'N Spare II in Lockport, Ill., on March 24-26.
