Massac County Community Unit School District No. 1 Board of Education met Jan. 23.

A Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Massac County Unit School District No. 1, Massac County, Illinois, was called to order in the Library of the Massac County High School, located at 2841 Old Marion Rd, Metropolis, IL, in said District at 6:30 PM by Board President, Mr. Mark Souders.
Upon a roll call, the following members answered present:

William Holt
Don Koch
Jennifer Larrison

Also Present: Jason Hayes, Superintendent
Kristin Rousseau, Supt/Board Secretary
Absent: None
At 6:30 PM with a motion from Larrison and a second from Steele, the Board voted to go to Closed Session to consider information relative to employment, appointment, or dismissal of specific employees or officers, collective negotiating matters between employers and their employees or representatives; to discuss litigation – probable, imminent, pending or file. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Souders, and Steele voted yes. Motion carried.
At 7:28 PM the Board returned to Open Session.
Public Comment/Invited Guests:
John Winding-Thanked the Board for allowing SCC basketball teams to utilize MCHS facilities. Presented a donation of $500.00.
Lacy Wade & Jeannie Cain-Expressed concern regarding student discipline policies.
A motion was made by Steele and seconded by Rushing to approve the consent agenda consisting of Minutes/Treasurer’s Report/Bills/Payroll. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Souders, and Steele voted yes. Motion carried.

With a motion from Brugger and a second from Larrison the Board voted to Approve the amended 2022/2023 school calendar to include school improvement days. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Souders, and Steele voted yes. Motion carried.
With a motion from Steele and a second from Larrison the Board voted to Approve the lowest responsible bid for the new Unit Office from H.E. Mitchell Construction of Harrisburg, IL for $2,986,685. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Larrison, Rushing, Souders, and Steele voted yes. Koch abstained. Motion carried.
With a motion form Rushing and a second form Steele the Board voted to Approve the lowest responsible bid for the HLS Carpet Replacement at Massac County High School from Floorsite Inc. of Goreville, IL for $180,500. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Souders, and Steele voted yes. Motion carried.
With a motion from Brugger and a second from Larrison the Board voted to Accept bids for a sound system replacement at Franklin Elementary School. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Souders, and Steele voted yes. Motion carried.
With a motion from Koch and a second from Brugger the Board voted to Approve the six month review of executive session minutes and keep them closed. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Souders, and Steele voted yes. Motion carried.
With a motion made by Brugger and seconded by Steele the Board voted to Approve the trip to IDEACON technology conference for the MCHS E-Sports team. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Souders, and Steele voted yes. Motion carried.
Personnel:
With a motion made by Brugger and seconded by Holt the Board voted to Approve the hiring of Gregory Neihoff as MCHS Night Custodian. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Souders, and Steele voted yes. Motion carried.
With a motion made by Rushing and seconded by Brugger the Board voted to Approve the hiring of Luke Caporale as MJHS Girls Track Coach. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Souders, and Steele voted yes. Motion carried.
With a motion made by Larrison and seconded by Rushing the Board voted to Expel Student A for one calendar year. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Souders, and Steele voted yes. Motion carried.
Mr. Souders issued congratulations to the MCHS Girls basketball team for winning their championship and to the boys team for placing second in the Superman Classic. He also mentioned the band is sounding great and thanked Gavin Hayes.
With a motion from Larrison and a second from Koch the Board voted to adjourn at 8:19 PM. Roll call: Brugger, Holt, Koch, Larrison, Rushing, Souders, and Steele voted yes. Motion carried.
